Middle School History Teacher and Advisor

 

Fort Worth Country Day is seeking an enthusiastic professional to serve as a Middle School History Teacher and Advisor beginning with the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will be energized by working with middle school-aged students, will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, will have classroom management skills which emphasize mutual respect and positive reinforcement and will participate fully in the life of the School. Fort Worth Country Day expects its faculty to work effectively with the grade-level teams and the curricular departments. Additionally, each faculty member is expected to lead students in extracurricular duties, such as but not limited to, coaching athletics, sponsoring a club or coordinating grade-level field trips. 

 

The 7th grade curriculum of American History covers the Pre-Columbian era through Reconstruction. Student “Reflections” and Socratic Seminars are utilized to encourage students to engage in critical thinking and analysis. The 8th grade World History curriculum covers early man through the Renaissance and Reformation. In both classes, the Middle School History Teacher and Advisor will teach students how to research and analyze information, while emphasizing the writing process.

 

Reporting to the Head of Middle School, other responsibilities and characteristics include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates a wide range of presentation techniques in order to adapt activities for different learning styles
  • Has an obvious passion for the subject matter and for teaching
  • Represents the School in a favorable manner
  • Can demonstrate commitment to student success by offering extra help hours

 

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience as a student advisor/mentor is preferred
  • Experience in both middle school and independent school education is also preferred
