Job Summary
As a Director of Food and Climate Justice, you will be responsible for spearheading the programs of Community Action Marin (CAM) which intersect issues of food security, racial equity, and climate justice. This position will manage existing projects, initiate new programs, sustain partnerships, inform advocacy efforts, and build funding opportunities. Reporting to the Vice President of Programs, the Director of Food and Climate Justice will oversee the agency’s Commercial Kitchen, production farm, and garden sites, and will supervise staff, volunteers, and project partners, including direct supervision of the Executive Chef and Farm and Food Justice Manager. This position builds on several years of programmatic and infrastructure development and investment and holds opportunity for advancement and growth within the organization.

Primary Responsibilities
Program Management
- Successfully implement a variety of nutrition education programs and community projects designed to build intergenerational power and nurture community-cultural knowledge of food, water, and land use.
- Ensure program compliance with grant and contract requirements of government agencies, private foundations, and other funders, including achievement and tracking of deliverables, invoicing, and data collection.
- Develop culturally responsive menus meeting CACFP requirements for CAM’s Commercial Kitchen meal services and featuring seasonal, fresh, local, and organic food sourced from CAM’s production farm and other garden programs whenever possible.
- Monitor Commercial Kitchen meal service practices to ensure adherence to menu plans and service agreements, food storage requirements, food quality and quantity, and general health and sanitation practices.
- Supervise CAM Farm Manager to ensure Production Farm has clear plans, seasonal outputs and incorporation into meal plans and food distributions to community members and families.
- Work in close partnership with Health and Nutrition Manager to support the development and implementation of joyful, educational, and culturally celebratory food and garden activities within CAM’s early childhood (infant, toddler, and preschool) sites and afterschool programs.
- Source, support, and inspire nutrition volunteers and interns.
Leadership and Alignment
- Work in partnership with Learning and Evaluation team to analyze data articulating impact of climate change and food access on clients, and work in partnership with community partners and residents to create short- and long-term solutions rooted in community assets and driving systems level changes.
- Work across agency to identify opportunities to design and/or imbed food and climate justice efforts within existing services, including early childhood education sites, senior congregate meal programs, and transitional age youth case management.
- Serve as CAM’s nutrition, food, and climate justice advocate in the community and among partners, including Marin Health and Human Services Agency, SF Marin Food Bank, Marin HEAL Collaborative, Marin Climate Justice Collaborative, Marin Food Policy Council, ExtraFood.org, etc.
Operations and Administration
- Develop and update written nutrition and food justice policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable program standards, requirements, and other federal, state, and local regulations for nutrition services.
- Collect, monitor, and evaluate food and climate data to communicate related outcomes for clients and community.
- Manage and review annual program budget, revenue goals and expenses.
- Ensure alignment of projects and initiatives with all aspects of CAM’s Strategic Plan, and regularly track and report progress to goals.
- Ensure compliance with CAM’s fiscal, operational and HR policies.
