Description

The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician supports the Fleet Science Centers mission and visitor experience philosophy by performing general maintenance and repairs to all building systems, including all mechanical, plumbing and A/V related systems.

This is a full time position, eligible for the Fleet's employee benefit package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and 401k, in addition to paid vacation, holidays and sick time.  

Reports to: The Building Technical Manager but completes work for multiple departments, including but not limited to Engineering, A/V and Exhibits.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

  1. Work under the direction of the Building Technical Manager to accomplish repairs, maintain, install new, or to replace facility equipment.
  2. Support and train engineering personnel on installation, maintenance, and safety features of equipment throughout the facility and assist with distribution of tasks among the team.
  3. Execute preventative maintenance plans for fire systems, refrigerators, fire extinguishers, elevator conveyance, water filters, fleet vehicles and other equipment as needed.
  4. Maintain the Facilities work order system to ensure work orders are properly addressed in a timely manner.
  5. Coordinate with external vendors to complete projects or repairs.
  6. Provide engineering expertise and assistance for exhibit development and installation as needed. With supervisor approval, support the Exhibits Technician as needed.
  7. Maintain system documentation for facility repairs and preventative maintenance plans.
  8. Research and procure parts and materials needed for facility needs and improvements.
  9. Assist with setting up and running A/V systems throughout the building for presentations, lectures, meetings and events. Provide support to staff as needed.
  10. Responsible to be knowledgeable of safety and emergency plan manual procedures, and work with the team for emergency procedures.

Qualifications

Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:

  • Minimum of two years related experience in a position responsible for building engineering systems including plumbing, electrical, A/V, and construction.
  • Proven ability to work independently, multi-task effectively, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Technical expertise as needed for the position.
  • Experience with Office365, Adobe and CAD
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to train and direct other employees on use of building equipment and systems.
  • Must be available for special events as needed.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements of this Position:

Heavy Work: Position involves ability to frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds, frequently exert up to 50 pounds of force and occasionally up to 100 pounds of force to move objects.
