Description

San Antonio Christian School is seeking a dynamic, experienced and collaborative advancement professional to serve as a school nurse. Located on a beautiful 71-acre campus SACS is a non-denominational covenant Christian school with small class sizes and high caliber academics, coupled with a wide range of art and athletic opportunities which provide students with a Christ-centered education while fostering a life of faith and service. The school nurse identifies and treats health disorders among students and provides instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention.  This position is instrumental in sustaining a school environment that is safe, encouraging, and fosters the development of the student.  This person shall be spiritually mature and shall instill a life of Faith, Character, and Academic Excellence in our students.

  • Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Professional Competencies/Responsibilities

  • Health and Wellness Culture:
    • Establish a culture of health and wellness within the school.
    • Adhere to health protocols and procedures.
    • Promote wellness through classes or classroom presentations and mandated staff presentations.
    • Train and teach CPR, First Aid, and AED.
    • Works closely with the security and wellness team.
  • Student Assessment and Medication Administration:
    • Assess student health needs.
    • Administer medications to students as prescribed.
    • Safely return medications to students or parents at year-end.
  • Effective Communication:
    • Communicate with parents via emails, newsletters, or other notices.
    • Provide information on immunization requirements and illnesses.
  • Health Screenings and Records Management:
    • Conduct health appraisals, including hearing and vision testing.
    • Maintain a database to track immunizations and sports physicals.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health regulations.
    • Collect and compile student immunization records in compliance with state immunization laws.
  • Emergency Preparedness and First Aid:
    • Keep emergency contact information for students and staff.
    • Handle emergency situations promptly.
    • Works and helps oversee the Crisis Response and Medical Teams in emergencies.
    • Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services.
    • Notify parents when necessary.
    • Attend overnight retreats and students trips as needed. 
  • Resource and Environment Management:
    • Serve as a resource person on health issues.
    • Recommend improvements to health policies and procedures.
    • Maintain organized student health files and records.
    • Create a clean, safe, and efficient office environment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior.  Seek to live life as His disciple. Share the Christian faith with others.
  • A valid nursing license (LPN or RN).  Possess evidence of other adequate preparation, background, or experience as determined by Administration.
  • Familiar with health protocols for schools, individualized healthcare plans, and preventative health practices.
  • Exceptional clinical judgment to assess and respond appropriately to student health needs.
  • Willing to participate in continuing education opportunities that will increase proficiency and job skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, and superior interpersonal skills with a natural way of connecting with people.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish, build, and maintain effective and trusted relationships.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to integrate technology into curriculum to design interactive and engaging lessons.  PC proficient with knowledge of standard software.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.  Have reliable transportation to and from work.

  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

  • Lift/carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Be outdoors for extended periods of time year-round.
  • Work overnight on retreats and student trips as needed. 
  • Travel locally, as well as nationally as needed.
