Summary

This position requires a license in veterinary technology valid in the state of Kentucky and experience working with a variety of species. Excellent interpersonal skills as well as proven skills in teamwork, organization and communication are required. The Vet Tech is responsible for coordinating with the Animal Health Manager to provide the best possible care for the animals at the Ararat Ridge Zoo and Eden Zoo. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, energetic and passionate about serving others. Responsibilities

  • Promote the Mission and Standards of Answers in Genesis.
  • Demonstrate our Core Values of SERVE (Serve, Equip, Relate, Value, Engage) in all work.
  • Approach all tasks with a second-mile mindset.
  • Prioritize personal integrity in all interactions and assignments.
  • Effectively communicates animal welfare issues and concerns to the Animal Health Manager.
  • Coordinates treatment plans with the Animal Health Manager, veterinarians and animal care staff.
  • Performs daily treatments and medication administration.
  • Ensures proper record keeping in Animal Care Software.
  • Works with zookeepers to perform routine health checks and assist in husbandry training sessions.
  • Assists in on-site and off-site veterinary appointments.
  • Earns continuing education credit in zoo veterinary technology associated organizations.
  • Trains in emergency response and chemical immobilization.
  • Collects a variety of samples from animals for veterinarians to review.
  • Follows established protocols in animal welfare and medical concern response.
  • Performs laboratory diagnostic procedures.
  • Serves both the Ararat Ridge Zoo and Eden Animal Experience as needed
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith.
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Regularly attends a local Bible-believing church.
  • Availability to work weekends
  • Must be friendly and courteous with guests.
  • Must have minimum of one year of work in animal care environment
  • Must be able to stand and move about throughout the attraction for the entire length of shift.
  • Perform duties in varied temperature and weather conditions throughout the attraction (e.g., extreme heat/cold, wind, rain, snow)
  • Bend and lift between 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Must be least 18 years of age or older.
  • To operate ministry trucks and vehicles must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Veterinary Technology
  • License in Veterinary Technology valid in the state of Kentucky
  • Experience working with large and exotic species
  • Laboratory experience
