Director of Graham SLAM, Foster Care & Community

Job Overview:

Graham SLAM works with youth from 8th grade to the age of 26, who are in Graham Windham’s foster care, family support and empowerment (prevention), community-based centers and behavioral health and wellness programs.  SLAM aims to develop a strong network of support for each young person through high school and post-secondary education and training (college or recognized vocational certificate program) and into a living wage career pathway.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leads, manages, and directly supervises the Graham SLAM supervisors and coaches for youth who enter Graham through foster care, family support and empowerment and community-based centers. 
  • Promotes a youth development philosophy and framework.  Works cross-branches to infuse youth development principles and skills across agency.  Builds a ONE Graham outlook across SLAM so all SLAM staff see themselves as full collaborators with all staff that partner with and support youth and families.
  • While having fidelity to the Graham SLAM model including practice methods (Solution-Based Casework, Motivational Interviewing, Collaborative Problem Solving, youth groups) and processes (contacts, submission of critical forms, documentation), designs a program to specifically engage, support and partner with community youth and their families.
  • For youth who enter SLAM through family support and empowerment or one of the community centers, ensures collaboration with parents/guardians to assist their children in educational and career planning.
  • In concert with Human Resources, develops and reassesses staff recruitment plans.  Remains focused on attracting, hiring, and retaining talent.
  • Helps to design and implement creative supervisory and professional development methods.  Leads staff and youth groups.  Supports staff in developing strong relationships with youth using effective modeling of pro-social skills.
  • Is the face of the program with foundations and public and private stakeholders.
  • Partners with Senior Performance Analyst and other SLAM Directors in strategic thinking and planning, data analysis and individual case reviews to make programmatic and individual youth decisions.
  • Works with key Executive staff to determine the critical program performance benchmarks under which the program is tracked and assessed. 
  • Ensures that efficient administrative procedures are in place within SLAM and that financial and physical resources are effectively used.
 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, social work, or related field; significant history of working directly with at-risk youth.
  • 4+ years of management experience including oversight of staff, budgets, and program outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to connect and engage young people and families.
  • Self-directed, strategic thinker with ability to engage community and government stakeholders while meeting deadlines.
  • Detailed oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to easily travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

 

 

Compensation & Benefits:  $89,908/year
