Friends’ Central School Overview
Friends’ Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 850 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood.

Upper and Middle School Latin Teacher
Friends’ Central School seeks a full-time Latin teacher starting in August 2024. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the content area, have a deep understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents, be committed to the School’s Quaker values and mission, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate will also work to foster an inclusive classroom environment that promotes a variety of interpretations of the ancient world and helps students to draw connections between Classical Studies and the modern world. Preferred candidates will be eager to make introductory Latin and Roman culture accessible to students and collaborate regularly with other members of the Language Department. They will also be an enthusiastic, dynamic, and innovative teacher.
Responsibilities:
- Teach four sections of Latin, including three sections of Latin to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students as well as one section of 9th grade Latin I.
- Focus on building students’ skills in reading, writing and translation.
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment characterized by inquiry and exploration.
- Assess students’ progress and performance in a timely fashion.
- Communication with teachers, advisors and parents/caregivers regarding students’ needs and progress.
- Serve as an advisor to a group of 10 to 12 students, acting as point person between home and school.
- Participate in faculty committees, grade team meetings and faculty meetings.
- Serve as a service project leader and club advisor.
- Chaperone field trips and other student activities that contribute to the life of the school.
