Description

Summary: Responsible for ensuring quality developmental and educational programming for children six (6) weeks to six (6) years. Defines and oversees implementation of curricula and best practices to achieve the highest standards and outcomes in early childhood education. Ensures classroom environment supports learning and individualized student needs. Supports classroom staff in carrying out programming through coaching, training, and hands-on modeling.  Responsible for developmental therapy evaluations of children ages birth to six (6) years.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Programming

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of and ensure developmental, educational, and related service programming meets the requirement of the Arkansas Department of Human Services Early Intervention Day Treatment Program and the laws and regulations of the Arkansas Department of Education Special Education and Related Services Early Childhood Special Education. 
  • Participate in enrollment process.
  • Ensure classroom staff receive timely information about new students including academic history, medical history, and any behavior concerns.
  • Lead or participate in parent orientations for new school year and individual parent orientations for children that start mid-year as assigned by Director.
  • Implement and monitor system for ensuring that timelines are met with respect to quarterly progress reports and conferences for children.
  • Ensure consistent, timely data collection on individual education/treatment plans.
  • Provide input in and assist with implementation of and monitoring of quality assurance/quality improvement program.
  • Ensure annual testing is completed, three-year-old conferencing and kindergarten transition conferencing is completed per requirements set forth by the Arkansas Department of Education and DHS Early Intervention Day Treatment Program (EIDT). 
  • Serve as liaison to families as needed. 
  • Support teachers in creating a learning rich environment through classroom arrangement, use of visuals, and access to equipment and supports needed for each individual child served.
  • Provide information and training to staff on any changes that impact programming and/or related documentation such as data collection, goals, and objectives, etc.
  • Supports teachers in creating classrooms that maintain an environment and activities in accordance with quality standards such as Better Beginnings and the Early Childhood and Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scales (ECERS and ITERS).
  • Mentor classroom staff in application of special education practices and concepts of  ECERS and ITERS standards.

CURRICULUM, ASSESSMENT, AND INSTRUCTION

  • Implement education curriculum and related programming that comply with all licensing agencies and in accordance with best practice guidelines.
  • Oversee classroom teacher development and implementation of regular lesson plans and activities with linkage to curriculum and individual student goals.
  • Support classrooms in gathering resources and materials needed to ensure quality instruction.
  • Facilitate coordination of goals and objectives for the children receiving therapy and other services.
  • Ensure lesson planning clearly outlines roles and responsibilities of teacher and teaching assistant(s)/paraprofessional(s).
  • Ensure lesson planning incorporates use of centers and circle time and is well differentiated for individual children served.
  • Encourage teaming between classroom staff, therapists (OT, PT, ST, ABA) and school nurse (where applicable) to optimize individualization of lesson plan in accordance with each child’s goals and objectives and to each child’s ability level.
  • Monitor child and classroom progress through review of teacher administered assessments, daily data and developmental evaluations and work with teacher to adjust programming or goals and objectives as needed to positively impact each child’s development.
  • As assigned by Director, oversee and/or perform developmental testing, score results, and generate reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of evidence-based practices with fidelity.
  • Support staff in behavior management techniques, data collection around behaviors, and development of behavior support plans.

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Make recommendations to program Director regarding overall preschool staff training plan.
  • Develop and implement training for teachers, teaching assistants and other school-based staff. 
  • Support classroom teachers and Director in development of individual staff professional development plans and identify training opportunities to support each plan. 
  • Align training and professional development with programming goals.
  • Conduct peer and/or classroom observations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:                                             

In collaboration with the director, provides supervision of the Teacher 1, Teacher 2 and SPED Teachers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:                                            

A Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Education  required. A Master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred. A minimum of three years field experience in similar position required or a minimum of seven years in lead teacher position.

  • Ability to present to groups and answer questions both in person and via video conference.
  • Strong computer skills to use electronic health management platform, email, calendar, word, excel, video conferencing, and presentation software.
  • Strong orientation to deadlines and detail.

While performing the essential functions of a classroom teacher, the employee will be required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands. Some outdoor activity is required, as children will engage in physical activity outdoors when the temperature is between 40 degrees and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
