Position Objective:

The Marketing Graphic Design Intern will gain knowledge, ability, and skills pertaining to graphic design in a camp setting by assisting in the production of high-quality graphics, including but not limited to print design, digital design, advertising, social media, web design, photography, videography, displays, booths, signage, and multi-media presentations and merchandising for all departments at Mount Hermon in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

 

General Qualifications

The Marketing Graphic Design Intern is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision, beliefs, culture code and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs and retreats. All staff are expected to join gatherings, which includes prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching.  

 

Key Job Accountabilities:             

  • Contribute with the Sr. Web/Graphic Designer and entire marketing department in designing and producing all design collateral (events, fundraising campaigns, marketing material, creative design, etc.) ranging from printed material to social media graphics to apparel.
  • Consult with the Sr. Web/Graphic Designer on design, layout, and advertising issues. Assist in executing deadlines for: marketing, sales, support communications, and creative program elements for all departments at MHA and for select ministry partners.
  • Assist in marketing research and functions.
  • Serve as an event photographer as needed.
  • Monitor our project management system and internal and external communications.
  • May participate in creative efforts including - designing, writing, building, shooting or otherwise contributing as needed to accomplish ministry objectives.
  • Be available for other duties as assigned, when approved by supervisor.
  • Intern Program Key Accountabilities (10% to 15% of your time)
    • Thoughtfully engage in coursework and readings assigned by the Intern Program Director, in order to grow in your understanding of God, yourself, and your vocational calling.
    • Attend, engage, and contribute to weekly Intern Program meetings and trainings.
    • Participate in two Intern Retreats, and one all-staff retreat.
  • Other Responsibilities (up to 25% of your time)
    • Serve cross-departmentally in order to learn other skills and service roles in camping ministry. This includes, but is not limited to: Dining, Facilities, Accommodations and Guest Services (hosting a guest group on a weekend day).
    • Help facilitate a Guest Group event during the Thanksgiving holiday week, in partnership with Mount Hermon’s Guest Services team and other departments.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

College graduate with coursework in design, marketing, communications or a related field.

 

Work Experience:

  • Experience working with Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite (especially In-Design, Illustrator, and Photoshop) and social media sites are required.
  • Must provide a portfolio of work in Graphic Design.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic graphic design and desktop publishing skills required.
  • Experience with layout design, merchandise design, & preparing files for print is a plus
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • A quick learner, with an ability to acclimate quickly to environment and different groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Must be observant and attentive.
  • Mature understanding of camp guidelines and principles and respect for authority and peers.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job as described in the Key Job Accountabilities. The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting or standing for at least 30 minutes straight, squatting, stooping, twisting, and the ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.

 

Additional Requirements:

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, many weekends, and several holidays.

May be required to travel for summer staff recruiting & church promotions.

Will be required to participate in Summer Staff Program as a component of the Internship program.

Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Wage: $16/hour minus deductions for housing. (*Wage and lodging deductions may change effective January 1, 2025)
