Position Objective:

The Family Ministries Intern will gain knowledge, ability, and skills pertaining to programming in a camp setting within the Childrens, Youth, and Adults Ministries program while assisting the Family Ministries Team with the express purpose of creating events where guests take one step closer to Jesus in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

 

General Qualifications:

The Family Ministries Intern is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision, beliefs, culture code and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs and retreats. All staff are expected to join gatherings, which includes prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching. 

 

Key Job Accountabilities:           

  • Key Accountabilities
    • Assist in facilitating and coordinating at all Family Ministry weekend retreats including, but not limited to Couple’s, Men’s, Women’s, and Parent/Child retreats.
    • Assist in creating, facilitating, and assessing Family Camp with a focus on Children and Youth.
    • Take part in vision strategy and development relating to theme, skits, curriculum, leadership development, and implementation; gaining the experience of taking a retreat from beginning to end.
    • Participate in the process of hiring summer staff, including but not limited to - participating in recruitment trips, making contacts about camp, interviewing, and hiring.
    • Participate in the theme development process including planning, coordinating, and implementing all thematic elements for Family Camp.
    • Provide leadership in the summer by acting as a Summer Staff Lead.
    • Assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of all promotional material including but not limited to - traveling to churches or other organizations and engaging in conversations promoting retreats.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Internship Key Accountabilities (10% to 15% of your time)
    • Thoughtfully engage in coursework and readings as assigned by the Internship Director so that you might grow in your understanding of yourself, God, and vocational calling.
    • Attend, engage, and contribute to weekly internship meetings and trainings.
    • Participate in two intern retreats and one all staff retreat.
  • Other Responsibilities (up to 25% of your time)
    • Serve cross departmentally in order to learn other skills relating services roles in camp ministry including but not limited to Dining, Facilities, Accommodations, and/or Guest Services (hosting a guest group on a weekend day).
    • Help facilitate Thanksgiving Family Camp in partnership with Mount Hermon Guest Services and other departments during the Thanksgiving Weekend.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

Bachelor’s Degree

 

Work Experience:

  • Experience working with primary and junior aged children (2nd-6th grade).
  • Camp counseling experience preferred.
  • Experience in leadership roles.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skills using a personal computer and various software packages.
  • A quick learner that has the ability to acclimate to different environments and different groups.
  • Capable of providing a strong Christian role model.
  • Ability to creatively lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding for camp guidelines and principles and respect for authority and peers.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, ability to lift and carry 50 lbs., etc.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, many weekends, and several holidays.
  • May be required to travel for summer staff recruiting & church promotions.
  • Will be required to participate in Summer Staff Program as a component of the internship program.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Beliefs and Standards of Conduct.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

 

 

Wage: $16/hour minus deductions for housing. (*Wage and lodging deductions may change effective January 1, 2025)
