General Qualifications

The Food Retail Manager is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship,
relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming
Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision, beliefs and standards of conduct.
They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference
programs, and retreats. All staff join into our community life of prayer, worship and spiritual activity,
including but not limited to staff meetings, attendance at programs, Bible Study, and staff gatherings.


Position Objective


The Retail Manager is responsible for managing, developing, and year-round operations for ensuring
exceptional food retail service is provided to guests in a welcoming, seamless and professional manner
while maintaining MHA’s Standards of Excellence. The ultimate aim is to bless and minister to guests and
staff in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


Key Job Accountabilities


Hire, train, manage, monitor, organize, direct, coach, develop and motivate and minister to up to
25 food-retail staff,
Schedule staff and coordinate food retail operations for all guests groups, ranging from 10 –
1,200, and special events, while planning around individual staff availability, guest group needs,
and budgetary guidelines to ensure good stewardship of staff and MHA’s resources.
Work closely with other departments to meet all guest group needs and to grow interdepartmental
relationships, while acting as an advocate for food retail, food retail staff, and the guest food retail
experience.
Order, manage inventory, code, and track sales for all food retail merchandise, food and supplies,
ensuring all products are properly stored and cycled.
Support Food Service Department goals by providing innovation, development, growth,
evaluations, and tracking for all retail food service offerings, operations, and sales.
Maintain clean and functional facilities by planning and coordinating regular cleaning, as-needed
maintenance, and equipment upkeep through logs and communication with staff, the facilities and
maintenance departments, and outside contractors, ensuring optimal operation.
Oversee food retail operations during service times, paying special attention to staff performance,
operational efficiencies, and guest feedback and making strategic adjustments as necessary to
maintain and improve the quality and standard of excellent service.
Attend and participate in regular meetings, including the Conference Center and Ponderosa BEO
meetings, and lead and facilitate regular team meetings with leadership and staff to address
upcoming groups and changes, discuss staff issues, develop the food retail program and staff,
engage in spiritual formation, and provide ongoing training.
Develop and manage the food retail budget, including all sales, records, and historical data.
Maintain compliance with all government safety and sanitation standards and adherence to all
health and safety codes.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education
College Degree preferred.
Work Experience
Minimum 2 years’ supervisory/management experience, directly managing 10 or more staff.
Minimum 3 years’ food retail experience of related customer service experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain a gracious, calm, and pleasant demeanor and adapt to changing priorities and
situations while under pressure.
Ability to improvise and provide creative solutions as problems and complications arise.
Ability to motivate, encourage, develop, and minister to a dynamic, part-time and entry-level staff,
as well as actively facilitate staff growth professionally, personally, and spiritually.
Ability to work with a large and diverse group of staff and guests.
Ability to interview, hire, train and effectively manage a staff of dynamic and diverse individuals,
and oversee the integration of a team of dedicated volunteers.
Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
Must be highly detail oriented and possess excellent time management skills.
Ability to prioritize various tasks and needs and then provide direction and organization to staff.
Possess an aptitude for creating aesthetically pleasing retail environments using inventive and
cost effective displays that are fitting for the needs of each site.


Physical Demands


Requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and
dry/arid conditions.
Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, with ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.
Requires ability to work at a computer and be on your feet for extended periods.


Additional Requirements/Skills


California Food Handler’s Certification.
ServSafe Managers Certification
Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and
use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including summers, weekdays, weekends, evening and night
shifts, and most major holidays (closed for Christmas).
Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed.
Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values, and
Commitment statements.
Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and
appearance.
Enforce and abide by all policies and service standards, including State, Federal and Local labor
laws as well as MHA and Food Service Policies and Procedures.
Satisfactory completion of background investigation, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility
to work in the United States.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • College degree preferred.
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License, clean driving record, as well as liability and collision insurance.

Work Experience

Minimum 3 years of food retail experience of related customer service experience.
