Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Diabetes Educator (RN) is responsible for rendering professional nursing care and directs and guides patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions:

  1. Obtains required assessments and collects needed data.
  2. Contributes to the development of a plan of care.
  3. Implements and monitors nursing interventions.
  4. Provides timely, adequate teaching to patient/family/significant other.
  5. Consistently documents assessments, interventions, and outcomes in necessary databases.
  6. Successfully completes yearly competencies.
  7. Demonstrates flexibility to meet the needs of the Diabetes Education Center which includes going to other expansions sites to see patients for diabetes education.
  8. Demonstrates ability to assess patients understanding of diabetes education teaching.
  9. Independently performs diabetes education to physician referred patients.
  10. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a medical/surgical environment required.
  • Some ambulatory experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required will obtain during hospital orientation.
  • Certification as a Diabetes Educator preferred.
  • Maintains compliance in RQI required.

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Verbal, clerical, numerical, and manual dexterity, color vision and near visual acuity.
  • Review of the Diabetes Education Center policy and procedures before staffing the unit.

Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
