IMMEDIATE

: Park Attendant Leader or Risk Manager

EDUCATION &
EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate, experience in customer relations preferred, college credit in law enforcement or criminal justice from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education and/or experience in security position is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to walk, bike or drive to and in park locations for up to 8 hours per shift.
Good judgment and conflict resolution skills in confrontational situations.
Well established interpersonal skills as it relates to answering questions and providing guest services.
Valid Illinois Driver's License.
Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days.
Valid BASSET/TIPS certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days.

Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision to solve problems and produce work on a timely basis.
Attendance/Punctuality – Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.

SUMMARY: Park Attendants are responsible for the essential functions as described in this Job Description. Parks Attendants perform a variety of services including helping with concerts, unplugged events, garbage removal, athletic field setup for Park District staff and guests including the following major functions; community relations, external and internal guest services, and basic park safety and security inspections and requesting guest ordinance
compliance. Park Attendants will carry out patrol assignments utilizing bicycle or foot patrol techniques (Park Attendant motor vehicles are used at night, during inclement weather, or with other duties as assigned).

HOURS: Hours will include a mix of week day and weekend, nights, and summer holidays.

ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
Patrol parks on bicycle, in assigned vehicle and by foot.
Open and close park facilities such as shelters, restrooms, etc.
Complete all assignments issued by the Supervisor and communicate with the Supervisor if assignments cannot be completed on the schedule established.
Function as customer service and as a security presence at District special events
Respond to guest and staff phone calls, e-mails, comments, suggestions and requests in a timely manner.
Inspect all park and playground areas for safety or security concerns, excess litter or vandalism/graffiti. Correct minor observations if possible and report uncorrected items to the Supervisor, appropriate Parks Maintenance staff and/or law enforcement.
Trash removal and disposal at parks and special events.
Assist Park District staff in facilitating special events as assigned.
Educate Park guests by providing information on District regulations, services, parks, programs and facilities. Provide answers to guest questions, resolve conflict, provide assistance or request compliance with ordinances.
Communicate with appropriate staff or law enforcement in order to resolve conflict, maintain order or enforce park ordinances if necessary.
Make contact with all park guests who hold field or facility/shelter permits and assist guests with any needs they may have in order to make their rental an enjoyable and memorable experience. This is including but not limited to garbage removal, grill setup, and closing procedures.
Assist recreation staff in enforcing sports field guidelines for appropriate use and permit use.
Direct patrons towards appropriate parking lots during special events.
Complete all required paperwork pertaining to the shift worked.
Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.

Attend required Park District training sessions.
Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
