SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Public Policy Coordinator will work closely with the Vice President of Public Policy to assist and support the development and execution of policy related activities, programs, research, communications and advocacy goals that effect Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC), Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Partnership Grand Strand (PGS) members and stakeholders and advance the mission of the MBACC and the entire Grand Strand area. The Public Policy Coordinator uses extensive discretion and independent judgement as well as a consultative approach to managing the role’s primary duties and responsibilities.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITES & FUNCTIONS
- Assist in monitoring, researching, and tracking local, state, and federal policy developments and issues, including legislative and regulatory issues.
- Research and draft fact sheets and other documentation related to policy and advocacy priorities.
- Assist in the planning and coordinating of public policy related events, such as the Legislative Reception, Legislative Luncheon, Freshman Caucus Retreat and other public policy related initiatives.
- Explore grant opportunities for area local governments and non-profits.
- Coordinate with the in-house events team on scheduling, equipment, registration, catering, room and technology set-up for relevant policy events and meetings.
- Assist in the communication of public policy updates to MBACC members and the community.
- Help implement outreach plans and secure successful passage of local ballot measures & referendums that will have a positive impact on the area business climate.
- Contribute to planning and execution of policy-related evaluation and prepare relevant reports.
- Update and create new economic impact studies for the Grand Strand’s priority transportation projects.
- Participate on the Public Policy subcommittee of PGS and the Advocacy Council with the MBACC with the VP of Public Policy.
- Monitor and attend relevant local, state, and federal government meetings and hearings as directed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Public Policy and/or President & CEO.
