Overview

 

Deck Nine Games is looking to hire a Performance Director to work with actors in delivering grounded, truthful, and emotionally impactful performances for interactive narrative adventure games. The person we are looking for is meticulous, patient, experienced with actors and comfortable with technology. 

Located near Boulder, Colorado, Deck Nine Games is a BAFTA and VGA nominated developer of narrative adventure games. Always innovating, we're growing and are seeking a new performance director to join our amazing team.

Our performance director will get to work intensely with the game director and narrative director to deeply understand the stories and characters. They will work regularly on our motion capture stage in Westminster, CO to direct the capture full-performance motion capture (pcap) performances, as well as in a VO booth for voice over sessions.

Currently a majority of the studio is remote, waiting until it is safe to return to the office. This position will be partially onsite/offsite until we are able to return to the studio full time. When we have work that necessitates onsite work, we have comprehensive COVID-19 procedures to be followed.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with actors to deliver feature film quality performances at a consistent and steady pace

  • Passion to dive deeply into story and characters, getting into creative synchronicity with the other directors and creative team

  • Work within a team of directors to break down and interpret interactive “code”-style film scripts, providing feedback when needed

  • Maintain a relaxed, enjoyable, and professional set environment

  • Work with a previs team to guide blocking, pacing, and cinematography as it relates to performance

  • Work with producers on schedules and creating shot lists

  • Work with motion capture team to establish shooting grids in Unreal Engine 4

  • Creative lead on all casting efforts

  • Listen to all the ideas, coherently answer all questions and protect the core vision

  • Work closely with everyone to create clear creative strategies and solve creative problems

  • Review, troubleshoot and provide feedback

  • Be a passionate leader every day

Qualifications

Requirements & Skills

 

  • 4+ years of experience as a Director of actors – film, television or theater

  • Experience with motion capture or facial capture is a bonus

  • Must be willing to relocate to the Denver, Colorado area

 

Bonus

 

  • Experience directing full-performance motion capture, or VO director

  • Experience as an editor, cinematographer or with Unreal Engine 4

  • Experience working with both SAGAFTRA and non-union projects
