Position Objective:
The MHA Director of OSS is responsible for providing leadership, planning, business operations oversight, and staff development for all aspects of MHA’s Outdoor Science School to ensure missional objectives are reached, financial commitments are maintained, and continuously excellent programming is delivered in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.
General Qualifications:
The Director of Outdoor Science School is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Ensure excellent camper experiences where campers have the opportunity to be introduced to Jesus, learning more about their relationship with Him, and ensure the spiritual ministry of MHA is reflected in the implementation of all education programs.
- Supervise and manage the work of team members, and mentor team members in their own spiritual and professional development.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with school administrators and districts in order to meet camper day targets for each year
- Provide oversight to implement program curriculum, schedule, and activities to meet the ministry objectives of campers learning about Jesus and growing in their understanding of science and creation.
- Manage the operational budget to ensure revenue and expense targets are achieved.
- Review environment and key business indicators constantly to identify problems, concerns and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure all safety systems, training and maintenance is performed as prescribed to maintain our excellent safety record.
- Participate in strategic meetings involving MHA leadership and inter-departmental leaders to align resources and complete ministry objectives.
- Willingly participate in a hands-on fashion to train and execute all programs of the department.
- Oversee relationships with various contractors and vendors to ensure products and projects are completed on time and on budget.
- Miscellaneous special projects as assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct supervisory responsibility includes the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such actions. This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for these positions:
- Outdoor Science School Staff (Nurse/Health Technicians, Principals, etc.)
- Outdoor Science School Naturalists
