Your Role: 

An integral part of the growing Nearpod engineering team, you will have direct impact on the technology choices, architecture, and scalability of our platform. You will influence our development philosophy and practices while rapidly scaling Nearpod. You will pair with product managers to visit customers, see Nearpod in active use, and innovate new solutions inspired by those observations.


About You:

  • Architecture. You are adept at working with your team to craft a design. From technology choice to data model to service design you can deliver a solution to problems while acknowledging constraints.

  • Coding. Our engineers write code, and they’re good at it. As a senior engineer, you’ve had some experience across multiple languages and are an expert in at least one. Our engineers come from diverse backgrounds, so you will feel comfortable if you’ve mastered Java, JavaScript, .NET, or PHP. You are able to drive good coding practices like TDD, continuous integration and delivery, and infrastructure automation.

  • Agile. We partner closely with Product and UX and regularly speak with customers, so you will have a role in the entire product lifecycle from ideation to product discovery to UX to code to testing to deployment. You should look forward to iterating and learning as you drive Agile, Lean and Continuous Delivery practices.

  • Lead. You are the technical point person for projects. This means you are comfortable leading the team to successful shipments and mentoring them along the way.



Ideal Candidate

  • You’re passionate about building a product that impacts the lives of K-12 students daily

  • You have 4-6 years of software engineering experience

  • You have experience designing distributed system architectures

  • You have experience developing in backend services using a web framework (i.e. Python/Flask/Django, Javascript/NodeJS, Java/Spring), and worked with relational databases (MySQL, Postgres)

  • You have developed product features on the frontend in Javascript using frameworks (i.e. React, Angular or VueJS.)  Bonus points if you’ve worked in Typescript

  • You take pride and ownership in producing high quality software, including appropriate test coverage and ability to troubleshoot production issues

  • You’ve worked within an Agile environment and are familiar with scrum

  • You’re an effective communicator and work well with distributed engineering, product and design teams

  • You have experience mentoring fellow team members and have demonstrated keeping up to date on new technologies

  • (Preferred) BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field

  • (Preferred) Experience working with microservice based architectures
