Description

The seasonal herptile zookeeper should have a strong background and experience working with herptiles and invertebrates, an understanding of animal health care and husbandry techniques, experience with animal training and environmental enrichment, ability to perform vigorous physical activities both indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions, and enjoy interacting with guests. This position will allow one to impact others through a service mindset centered on making an eternal difference.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission and standards of Answers in Genesis.

  • Prioritize personal integrity in all interactions and assignments
  • Knowledge of zoo animal husbandry, natural history, and observational skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and remain levelheaded in emergency situations
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of observations of animals including behavior, diets, health, behavioral enrichment, training, etc.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings
  • Work in a team setting
  • Contribute and maintain a safe, positive, and productive work environment for animals, guests, and zoo staff
  • Daily cleaning of animal habitats and back of the house areas utilizing various tools, instruments, disinfectants; and with the ability to do so safely
  • Diet preparation, feeding, and restocking of feed supplies
  • Participates in daily behavioral husbandry, operant conditioning, and environmental enrichment of the herptile collection
  • Strong communication skills to accurately report daily information written, oral, and with animal tracking software
  • Maintain assigned areas to ensure safety and good appearance, paying attention to detail to guest viewing areas at all times
  • Up to 70% of day in guest facing positions
  • And all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith.
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Regularly attends a local Bible-believing church.
  • Customer service oriented, dedicated to high guest satisfaction levels
  • Willing to work long hours and be on feet for extended periods of time
  • Willing and able to work long hours and be on feet for long periods.
  • Able to lift heavy loads of 20-100lbs. repeatedly

Education & Experience

  • 1-2 years experience with herptiles and invertebrates or pursuing a relevant degree
