Upper School Computer Science

 

 

Fort Worth Country Day seeks an experienced Computer Science educator to support and enhance Fort Worth Country Day’s Computer Science community.  Reporting to the Head of Upper School, the successful candidate will:

 

  • Be energized by working with upper school aged students
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create cross-curriculum opportunities that enhance student learning
  • Demonstrate classroom management skills that emphasize mutual respect and positive reinforcement
  • Participate fully in the life of the school
  • Be a team player who works well with others in the division and throughout the JK-12 technology program
  • Represent the school in a favorable manner to all communities
  • Be flexible, positive and punctual in the performance of all duties

  • Articulate a clear vision for Computer Science education from JK through 12th grade

This position is responsible for existing sections of Computer Science Principles (AppInventor), Art and Code (Processing), AP Computer Science, Data Structures and independent study projects.  Opportunities to expand into the areas of gaming design, robotics and web programming are available.  Experience in electronics, engineering, or Arduino single-board microcontrollers is desirable, but not required.

 

FWCD expects its faculty to work effectively with the grade level teams and the curricular departments, to demonstrate a wide range of lesson presentation techniques in order to meet the needs of a variety of college bound students.  Each faculty member advises ten to twelve students and is expected to lead students in extracurricular duties including, but not limited to, sponsoring a student group, serving in the school’s summer programs, coordinating co-curricular summer trips, or coaching athletics. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in a computer-related field and will have a background in object-oriented programming
  • Have experience teaching AP Computer Science in the Java programming language
  • Experience with teaching high school students
  • A sense of humor
  • A generous spirit and positive attitude
  • Experience as a student advisor/mentor
  • The ability to demonstrate a wide range of presentation techniques in order to adapt activities for different learning styles and abilities
  • An ability to demonstrate commitment to student success by offering opportunities outside normal school hours
  • A thoughtful approach to intercultural communication
  • A thoughtful approach to inclusion of underrepresented groups and knowledge
