Lawrence Hall, an Illinois Non-Profit Corporation in the field of child welfare, hereby offers, based on the application of the Candidate, to accept the Candidate into its unpaid internship program as a volunteer Music Therapy Intern.
VOLUNTEER FUNCTIONS
The Music Therapy Intern will report to and be instructed and evaluated by the Music Therapist. The intern will learn through planning and organizing Music Therapy activities as part of mental and physical health care treatment of clients to influence behavioral and psychological changes leading to restoration and improvement of emotional health. Effectively utilizes verbal and written communication skills. Requires knowledge of trauma exposure, knowledge of the 5 S’s of trauma: Safety, Self-Regulation/Soothing, Supportive, Strengths, Self-Care, and an understanding of and recognition of the signs of traumatic stress. Must be able to effectively use both verbal and physical intervention skills with individuals six (6) through twenty-one (21) years of age. Physical intervention skills require the ability to kneel and return to standing without assistance. Requires flexibility to adjust work schedule according to the needs of the program.
INTERN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes individual assessment of youth quarterly utilizing established departmental assessment procedures
- Maintains involvement in departmental planning from a comprehensive as well as specific program planning perspective, participating in needs assessments, team meetings and department meetings
- Implements specific programs, special events and other activities as generally designed in specific program description
- Completes formal documentation procedures as established by departmental policies
- Maintains membership in professional organizations and keeps current credentials in appropriate/relevant discipline and maintains professional organizational involvement
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with clients and responds to problem behaviors in methods established by departmental and agency policies
- Ability to work effectively with clients and staff in a culturally diverse environment
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement in all aspects of the position
- Participates in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities as assigned
- Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned
