Position Overview

Equal Justice Works is looking for a highly engaged, proactive self-starter and team player who has passion for storytelling and creating engaging content to showcase the impact of our work.  

This role serves as a core member of Marketing and Communications unit at Equal Justice Works and will be tasked with assisting many of the team’s ongoing marketing and communications efforts, especially content posted on the organization’s website and social media channels. This is a full-time position that reports to the marketing and communications director and consistently collaborates with all team members. 


  • Support writing, editing, and proofread long-form content including press releases and blog posts 

  • Draft short-form content for email and social media channels and support asset creation 

  • Support content publishing and organization on organization’s website 

  • Provide quality checks for content published on the organization’s website, including ongoing auditing and maintenance of website content  

  • Proactively solicit content ideas from various constituency groups to inform editorial and social calendars  

  • Support community management on social media channels, including some social listening and responding to questions 

  • Track ongoing news about Equal Justice Works and stories related to the organization 

  • Help maintain the organization’s media coverage archive and assist with coordinating responses or pitches for media 

  • Assist in managing the organization’s digital media asset library 

  • Support some administrative needs of team including scheduling meetings, submitting invoices, and helping with expense reports 

  • Perform other duties as assigned 

  • Requires 0 years of experience and a college degree (or equivalent relevant work experience/training).  

  • Meticulous attention to detail and superb writing and proofreading skills 

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities with a range of complexity 

  • Ability to work independently and as a team player  

  • Good problem-solving skills and judgment 

  • Sense of humor 


  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) 

  • Demonstrated basic understanding of the digital, traditional, and paid media ecosystem 

  • Experience with social media that goes beyond personal profiles 

  • Experience with social media and content management tools (e.g. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.) a plus 

  • Knowledge of the WordPress platform a plus 

  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Photoshop, and/or InDesign a plus
