The position involves medical screening of blood donors, performing phlebotomy, and the care of donors post-phlebotomy. Managing multiple donors, (2) or more at one time, and maintaining the highest level of customer service is expected. Provides appropriate handling of donor reactions. The screener/phlebotomist must be thoroughly knowledgeable in American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) standards regarding donor screening and phlebotomy. The incumbent must also know and follow written Standard Operating Procedures and current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs). Donor collections personnel may work at Unyts’ fixed sites, on the mobile vehicles, and at various mass draw sites within the region.


Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.


  • Previous experience in a medically related field preferred.

  • Certification in phlebotomy or experience working as a phlebotomist required.

  • Prior customer service experience preferred.

  • Must obtain CPR certification within three (3) months of hire. Must maintain current CPR proficiency.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding customer service, and be able to communicate with diverse individuals.

  • Must be computer proficient. Data entry required.

  • Must be adaptable and flexible to change with the ability to think critically in solving problems with a continuous focus on customer service.

  • Must be detail oriented, and have the ability to remain accurate while under pressure.

  • Must be results oriented and highly organized with the ability to think logically, manage time effectively, prioritize and multi-task.

  • Must be able to maintain focus through interruptions and emotional stress.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment strongly preferred.

  • Must have professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Must be reliable and self-motivated.

  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Travel required.
