Description

The Public Health Specialist will perform a supportive role in the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board’s (SPTHB) Tribal Health Experiential Student Internship Seminar (THESIS) program. Under the general direction of the THESIS Program Manager, individual needed to develop and maintain implementing an internship program designed to introduce minority undergraduate students to health and public health. Activities will be to support an 8-week internship program to recruit interns and raise awareness of the need for minorities specifically in the public health workforce. Duties include but are not limited to: developing and maintaining a training schedule, coordinating the use of outside professionals for classes, seminars, webinars, as well as, assist in providing trainings as requested on public health. Coordinate with internal programs and/or tribes, tribal organizations, state, local entities, and academic institutions regarding curriculum building and relationship building. Assist with survey building, implementation and collection, and maintain data collection, entry, analysis, and interpretation to ensure comprehensive, quality data are reported for the feasibility of program evaluation. Review of recruitment materials to assess for cultural competency, education level. Collaborate and coordinate with multiple stakeholders. Duties will also include coordinating with mentors and training staff in the use of learning management systems, curriculum building, and mentorship expectations. Assist management in program evaluation through quality assurance reviews and with monitoring progress of achievement of grant objectives. Prepare narrative reports and ensure programmatic activities follow the program timeline as well as coordinate with the yearly workplan. Additionally, duties include assisting with maintaining program website, updating fellows of public health career opportunities, and continuing education opportunities. Maintaining a list serve of all fellows and continuing to foster communication once internships have been completed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years public health or related field experience

Education: Bachelor’s in Public Health or closely related field preferred

Experience/Field: 2+ years experience in tribal public health preferred

Travel: Up to 25%
