The Data Analyst will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of complex analyses, visualizations, and code related to our higher education clients.

Reporting to the Director, Analytics & Data Governance, you will provide expertise and insight to engage and stimulate increased client utilization of Academic Analytics solutions as strategic assets in client decision-making and program assessment.

The ideal candidate for this role would be a data professional with at least three years of professional experience working in an analytical role at a university or in the education sector. This role has significant opportunities for creative problem solving and the exercise of independent judgment and is not an entry-level position.

The candidate would be joining a diverse team of data specialists, with backgrounds across institutional research, faculty and student success, institutional operations, and private industry. This team environment blends a highly collaborative team culture with significant opportunities for independent work and collaborates with other teams across Academic Analytics in a dynamic client service operation.

The salary range for this position is $78,000 - $88,000.
This role is eligible for additional contingent compensation in the form of discretionary bonuses that are based on a combination of company and individual performance. Please note that bonuses are never guaranteed. 

 

This role offers flexible scheduling (coordinated with your manager), 15 days of paid time off per year, 13 paid holidays yearly (including a week-long winter break at the end of December where the whole company closes), two floating holidays for use each calendar year, very competitive employer-sponsored health insurance benefits, including PPO and HDHP options, dental/life/AD&D/long-term and short-term disability, health reimbursement account ($500/year), 401k plan with match (full match on first 3%; 50% match on next 2%), $100/month cell phone reimbursement, and company-provided technology (computer, all peripherals).

Essential Functions

  • Perform data analysis to support client objectives, turning data into insights that drive business decisions.
  • Define and scope report requirements (in collaboration with clients), design and develop report-oriented code (either in SAS or SQL); build, test, and standardize reports, data visualizations, and dashboards (primarily in Tableau and/or Excel).
  • Ensure data quality and integrity by participating in database QA and client report peer review process.
  • Identify and prepare data content for webinars and public communications and presentations; collaborate with clients and internal users to define the scope of new product-oriented R&D projects and client analyses and present completed reports to client stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with Client Engagement Team, partner with individual client institutions to tailor the implementation of Academic Analytics products and solutions to each client’s unique needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field is a plus
  • At least three years data analysis experience or academic training
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills and a solutions-oriented, innovative approach to exploring data
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL and/or SAS required
  • Python experience a plus; database development experience a plus (Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent)
  • Extensive knowledge of Tableau Desktop required; Tableau Server experience a plus (Microsoft PowerBI experience will be considered in lieu of Tableau experience)
  • Understanding of basic statistics and research methods
  • Experience working in higher education and/or institutional research a plus
  • Experience with Data Governance initiatives a plus
  • Ability to develop strong, collaborative working relationships with colleagues in a virtual work environment
  • Needs to be flexible with willingness to adapt to changes
  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to operate in high volume work environment
  • Proactive work style: will take initiative to make personal connections with key personnel internally and externally, take ownership of projects and see through to completion
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of data users from various functional levels
  • Ability to think analytically and communicate statistical concepts and research findings to expert and non-expert users
