We are seeking a full-time parish Youth Minister to facilitate the gifts of the Parish community, supports the leadership team, and families as they accompany youth on their journey of deepening their relationship with the Risen Christ and their participation in the life and mission of the Church. 

The Pastoral Assistant and the youth ministry leadership team animate the relationship between the Parish and the communities of young members.  They do this through a variety of actions that have one purpose: to support the families of youth and the Parish community as they accompany youth on their journey of growth as disciples of the Risen Christ.

The purpose of this position is to focus primarily on promoting the accompaniment of Jr. and Sr. High youth preparing for Confirmation and becoming active members of the Parish Community. Accompanied in the faith by their families, their engagement in the life of the Parish, and in strategic gatherings with their peers, they will come to grow in their Discipleship.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Youth Ministry:

  1. Develops initiatives that support the engagement of the Parish community with youth; their inclusion of youth in the life of the Parish; and in the Church’s mission.  

  2. Creates a leadership team and program for inviting, preparing, supporting, and supervising leaders for ministry with youth. 

  3. Implements the ongoing, training, resourcing and support for parents and faith companions for Jr. and Sr. high school age youth. 

  4. Assures the development of programs and activities for Jr. and Sr. high youth that fosters their spiritual formation.  This should include but not be limited to religious formation along with youth-oriented liturgies, retreats, social gathering, recreation and community service opportunities.

  5. Develops and Implements a Sacramental Preparation process for the celebration of Confirmation for Jr. and Sr. High Youth

    1. Catechetical instruction and Faith Formation events for those preparing for Confirmation.

    2. An interview of candidates to assess their readiness for Confirmation. 

    3. In consultation with Pastoral Associate for Liturgy, plans, schedules and facilitates the Liturgies involving participants.

    4. Coordinates with the Pastoral Assistant for RCIA who will prepare adults for Confirmation.

  6. Act as liaison to connect young adults to the Parish community, and with other  young adult groups in the deanery and archdiocese. 

 

General:

  1. Maintains a current level of knowledge and skills required to function in this position. This is accomplished by reading, and attendance at workshops and conventions. Incumbent also participates in regional, Archdiocesan and national professional organizations as appropriate and approved.

  2. Assures that legal and moral responsibilities are provided for within the context of the Parish program, including developing and implementing plans for promoting a safe environment in accord with Archdiocesan policies.

  3. Assures the development and maintenance of required records and data for Sacramental Records and in the evaluation of the effectiveness of each activity and/or program as a whole.

  4. Assures an adequate budget is prepared and submitted in a timely manner.  When the budget is approved, monitors monthly expenses and revenue; authorizes all expenditures for that budget.

  5. Assures that programs developed for parishioners are consistent with Archdiocesan and Universal Church norms.

  6. Other temporary responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor or negotiated for the well-functioning of the parish. 

 

Collaboration:

  1. Collaborates with the Pastor/Parochial Vicar and other staff in implementing the mission of the parish.  This is accomplished by participating in the comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation of the Parish’s pastoral programs, goals and objectives, with specific focus on preparation of Teens for the Sacrament of Confirmation and Youth Ministry.  The incumbent serves as a professional resource to the staff in these areas. 

  2. When appropriate, participates in regional/deanery planning and program efforts and collaborates in their implementation.

 

Other:

  1. Incumbent will read and understand the Archdiocesan Employee manual and know where to find employee policies. The following are noted as position related matters. 

    1. Physical Effort:  For the most part, the job is sedentary.  Lifting may be required of objects weighing approximately 20 pounds.  Carts will be used for moving objects that are heavier.

    2. Working Conditions: 

      1. Incumbent performs most work indoors but on occasion will have to travel. Mileage is reimbursed on a fixed rate.

      2. Incumbent must have a valid Washington State Driver's License and own a vehicle. All traveling must be accomplished using privately-owned vehicles insured at the required Archdiocesan rate.

 

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Active member of a Catholic Parish Community

  2. Catechetical Certification for Archdiocese of Seattle or comparable

  3. Experience in Youth Ministry or teaching.

 

 

 

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
