PURPOSE:

Under supervision of the Occupational Therapists (Registered), the COTA will deliver therapy services to students as mandated on student IEPs and/or within the program in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the Occupational Therapist with data collection and various assessment instruments.
  2. Assists the OTR with the development of Individualized Education Program (IEP); stating present level of functioning, annual and short-term goals based on formal and informal assessment results.
  3. Attends and contributes to IEP, team, staffing conferences and other required meetings as a representative of occupational therapy, or under the direction of the OT.
  4. Maintains appropriate and timely documentation for all students treated, including all IEP documentation (including the tracking of direct and consultative IEP minutes.
  5. Maintain all records and implement all procedures in accordance with Illinois and PL 94-142 Rules and Regulations
  6. Implement intervention plans using tools and materials as outlined by the OT.
  7. Communicate effectively, orally and written, to parents, teachers, and program staff.
  8. Participate in all scheduled in-house training throughout the school year.
  9. Maintains equipment and supplies.
  10. Maintains student records and files.
  11. Prepares records and reports.
  12. Attends meetings as appropriate.
  13. Provide consultative services to classroom and school personnel and parents/guardians. These services may take the form of conferences, classroom demonstrations, or other consultation models/activities.
  14. Performs related duties as required.
  15. Adheres to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies that affect occupational therapy practice.
  16. Maintains American Heart Association certification in First Aid and CPR.
  17. Successfully completes Little City Foundation required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City Foundation policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

At least an Associates Degree or two-year college certificate, having graduated from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program according to AOTA & ACOTE standards, required. Must be licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required in the state of Illinois. Experience working with school-aged children with special needs, working with typical children and rehabilitation experience, preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods; frequently grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and lift up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and CPI. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including communicable diseases when performing personal care (Category III). Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. Work environment with a noise level of normal to loud.
