Lower School Teaching Fellow

Tower Hill is seeking a Lower School Teaching Fellow for the 2024-2025 academic year who will work alongside, and partner with, classroom teachers to experience firsthand all facets of teaching including, but not limited to, curricular instruction, lesson planning, classroom management, and report writing. Throughout the course of their year(s) at Tower Hill, the Teaching Fellow will be given the opportunity to design and teach units in reading, writing, word study, math and social studies with time to evaluate and reflect on the effectiveness of the lessons.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the classroom teacher(s) in planning and implementing lessons that adhere to the established curriculum

  • Share in classroom management to create a healthy and positive learning environment for all students

  • Teach every subject area for a period of time including planning and assessing

  • Interact with students throughout the day by assisting them with curricular activities, offering needed support, building a healthy student/teacher relationship

  • Participate in recess and lunch coverage

  • Participate in early morning and dismissal duties

  • Help classroom teachers to set up, maintain and clean up classrooms at the start and end of each day

  • Meet on a regular basis with lead teachers to review the lesson plans and student needs

  • Assist classroom teachers with parent communication when asked

  • Participate in regular grade level meetings

Qualifications

Other information:

  • Attend all faculty and staff meetings (division meetings, all school meetings, inservice days, etc.)

  • Attend and participate in parent-teacher conferences

  • Participate in the setting up of classrooms and planning student orientation day

  • Teaching Fellows are welcome to apply for funds for Professional Development Opportunities through the Faculty Development Council (FDC)

  • Bi-weekly meetings with the Head of Lower School

  • Daily interaction with classroom teacher to discuss instruction and students

  • Reading/Writing Workshop mentoring by our Literacy Teaching and Learning Specialist

  • Mentoring in math by our Math Learning Specialist

  • School-wide professional development days

  • Required SEED training

  • Monthly observations by the Head of the Lower School and Mentor followed by a reflective debrief
