The Fund for Public Health in New York City, (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (Health Department), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.
The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) aims to eliminate racial inequities resulting in premature mortality, with a focus on chronic disease, by addressing the social and environmental factors that impact health. CHECW works to increase placed-based investments in priority neighborhoods with community programming and services based on epidemiology; influence and leverage the health system to promote whole-person care; intensify the agency’s approach to tackling big salt, sugar, and tobacco; and finding innovative ways to improve the built environment and address the social determinants of health and root causes of health inequities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CHECW is working directly with communities experiencing the unjust impacts of inequities exacerbated by COVID-19, including impacts like high mortality rates, food insecurity, loss of employment, and eviction.
The Health Department is working to ensure fair and equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine. This requires that the communities hit hardest by the pandemic have access to the vaccine and Vaccine Hubs operated by DOHMH throughout the city. The Health Department’s COVID-19 Equity Action Plan recognizes that underinvestment and structural racism are the root causes of the disproportionate burden of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths seen in priority neighborhoods.
The Vaccine Equity Partner Engagement (VEPE) project will support equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines and vaccine information by funding community partners to develop tailored messaging, lead engagement, and support navigation of vaccination scheduling systems in priority communities. Community and faith-based organizations often rely on very limited internal resources that have been stretched even thinner by COVID-19 and parallel pandemics (e.g. mental health, chronic disease, social and economic instability, overdose, and racism). Funding aims to increase investment in the organizations that have deep roots in the priority communities we seek to engage.
This is a high-profile, high priority project in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and other City Agencies through the Vaccine Command Center.
In partnership with the Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) and under the direction of the Evaluator, the Data Analyst, VEPE will oversee data collection, analysis, and dissemination in support of vaccine equity in neighborhoods facing the greatest burden of inequities due to COVID-19 and systemic and structural racism. This is a 1-year grant funded position.
- Collect, clean and analyze qualitative and quantitative data
- Oversee data collection for partner organizations
- Oversee build-out of data collection platform, dashboards and reporting on Salesforce
- Provide technical assistance to partners to support their data collection and reporting needs
- Identify and reconcile data discrepancies and work with external partners to resolve these
- Track monthly milestones, identify outliers, and detect lags in reporting
- Respond quickly to urgent data requests from stakeholders and city agencies
- Support drafting of evaluation plan
- Develop metrics in line with evaluation plan
- Support preparation of summary tables, maps, and report to present key findings to leadership and stakeholders
