The Live In Building Attendant responds to resident and building emergencies and provides general security services to our residents. Housing is included with this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provide front desk coverage during M-F hours, holidays and weekends when the business office is closed. Includes: Answering general business phone line calls/questions, letting guest and residents in the building, and responding to emergency requests (see below).
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday on call duties: responding to emergencies and responding to calls forwarded by the answering service.
  • Covering for call ins/illness for other Live-In position staff.
  • Ensure that all individuals entering building are authorized and sign in/out as needed.
  • Respond to resident’s medical and environmental emergency requests for assistance
  • This may include but not be limited to residents who have fallen, are experiencing unusual pain or other medical symptoms/issues, smoke or fire in their apartment, no heat in the winter or air in the summer, no water or electrical, floods, and light maintenance.
  • Responds to fire alarms. Contacts the third-party monitoring company, resets fire doors throughout the building and makes announcements to residents.
  • Responds to emergency pendants. Advises third party if medical assistance is necessary. Completes incident report and conducts initial contact with family sponsor as appropriate.
  • Conducts door tag rounds while also completing security rounds: examining doors, windows, and fire panels to determine that they are secure and operating properly.
  • Complete shift report that includes items such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment for follow up by staff and or contact on-call maintenance staff.
  • Provide security support in situations involving safety checks, resident pull cords or death of a resident on the premises and notify building administrator.
  • Provide clearing of plugged toilets and basic safety clean-up and/or management of floods (may include turning off water valves) and light maintenance or trash removal as needed afterhours/weekends.
  • Notify maintenance staff when their services are necessary/submit work order request if needed. Notify maintenance staff or contractors (according to building policy) to provide repair work and let vendors in to do repairs afterhours.
  • Activate emergency staff calling tree for larger emergency situations.
  • Announce/manage tornado warnings, and other weather-related building warnings.
  • Respond on off hours to assist in maintaining clear and safe main entrances by shoveling and salting walkways during inclement weather.
  • Notify public safety officers of unauthorized or suspicious individuals in or around the property.
  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles within the building.
  • Other duties as assigned.
