STEM Teaching Fellow

Tower Hill is seeking a STEM Teaching Fellow who is an early career science and/or math educator wishing to learn from experienced faculty at Tower Hill School and develop his/her own teaching experience through a combination of independent teaching and close mentoring by our faculty. The Fellow will be expected to participate fully in the school community while also working to develop the teaching skills required of a full-time, autonomous faculty member. Tower Hill School values the inherently interdisciplinary nature of STEM and seeks a developing educator who is committed to furthering the use of real-world applications/problem-solving and inquiry-based work.

Responsibilities:

  • Shadow existing faculty in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Math.

  • Assist classroom teachers in planning and implementing lessons that adhere to the established curriculum.

  • Work with other teachers to develop and deliver a variety of lessons at various levels (college preparatory, honors and advanced).

  • Serve as lead teacher if class coverage is needed.

  • Demonstrate an interest in and willingness to learn to use current teaching technology in the classroom.

  • Support lab preparation and breakdown when needed.

  • Engage fully with THS community including, but not limited to, participation at all school-wide assemblies, faculty meetings, department meetings, and various faculty supervisory duties.

  • Share in classroom management to create a healthy and positive learning environment for all students.

  • Interact with students throughout the day by assisting them with curricular activities, offering needed support, and building a healthy student/teacher relationship.

  • Meet on a regular basis with lead teachers to review lesson plans and student needs.

  • Engage with student life, clubs, and athletics as appropriate.

  • Support departmental needs as they come up.

  • Regular meetings with Division Heads and Department Chairs

  • Daily interaction with classroom teachers to discuss instruction and students

  • School-wide professional development days

  • Required SEED training

  • Monthly observations by the Head of Upper School, Head of Middle School, Science and/or Math Department Chair, and Mentor followed by a reflective debrief

  • Teaching Fellows are welcome to apply for funds for Professional Development Opportunities through the Faculty Development Council (FDC).

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications
- Required: A degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Math
- Demonstrated interest in teaching high school and/or middle school aged students, growth mindset and willingness to engage in self-reflective teaching practice
