Medical Laboratory Technologist

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing high-complexity CLIA testing in day-to-day operations of the laboratory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform complex molecular-based procedures, including nucleic acid extraction, RT-PCR, and qPCR, with a high degree of quality and in accordance to established protocols.
• Maintain complete documentation for all steps of the process per the SOPs.
• Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities.
• Participate in the training of other technologists when requested.
• Participate in weekly and monthly instrument maintenance.
• Troubleshoot events that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
• Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
• Take on independent projects and tasks beyond routine work.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Hold a Bachelor of Science in a Medical Laboratory Science program that included a structured clinical laboratory experience; or
• Hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in a chemical, physical or biological science and have at least six months of relevant full-time laboratory experience, or
• ASCP certification in MB, MLS/MT, or MLT preferred.
• Previous experience performing molecular techniques, such as nucleic acid extraction, RT-PCR, and qPCR is highly desired.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus.
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
• Must be able to pass a standardized pipette competency.
