Description

Shadow Keeneland’s GM of Facilities, Director of Maintenance, Director of Building Services, Mechanical Superintendent, Electrical Superintendent, and Trades Superintendent as they perform their daily rounds. This internship will provide an inside look to how a racetrack and large equine farm operates behind the scenes. Successful candidates will learn how to read and interpret utility and construction plans, work within and lead small teams, coordinate projects with multiple departments, and provide support to our Mechanical, Electrical, and Trades Departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work in a weekly rotational group that will be responsible for all construction management, building maintenance, and grounds maintenance associated with Keeneland’s 1,234 acre property.

  • Prepare weekly meeting agendas.

  • Participate in operational planning meetings.

  • Assist with work order management and dispatch.

  • Assist with writing scopes of work, bid solicitation, contract management, and project coordination.

  • Work alongside Keeneland’s mowing, tree, and barn maintenance teams.

  • Assist Keeneland’s MEP staff with preventative maintenance tasks.

  • Assist Keeneland’s Building Services Department with inventory, room conversions, and our recycling program.

  • Become a certified forklift operator.

  • Other duties and assignments as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled college student.

  • Exceptional writing and communications skills; ability to work with diverse clients.

  • Organized with the ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.

  • Creative and flexible, a proven self-starter.

  • Ability to lift, push, pull or carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Willingness to follow Keeneland’s policies and procedures.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A Kentucky Horse Racing Authority License is required for all track workers. (Supplied through Keeneland upon hire)
