Summary:
At Abrasive Form we power and protect the planet. As a world leader in high precision Aerospace and Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) machining, we manufacture turbine blades and vanes for many of the largest gas turbine manufactures and allied militaries around the world. We use high precision CNC milling, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and 3 and 5-axis creep feed and CBN grinding.

The Quality Engineer creates and revises Inspection Work Instructions, Quality Alerts and Inspection Plans to reduce scrap, internal nonconformances, and customer complaints. This position is responsible for submitting Concessions and Deviations to customers for the acceptance of nonconforming product. The Quality Engineer provides training for the use of inspection gauges and CMM equipment use, supports NPI and Cold Starts with development of Control Plans, Process Capability support, Inspection Plans, and statistical analysis. The successful candidate is intimately hands-on supporting the daily manufacturing operations, exemplifies team work and collaboration and process improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Quality, the Quality Engineer is responsible for delivering against the Quality strategy for results.
Submit Customer Concessions or Deviation Requests for nonconforming product. Evaluate, test, and over-inspect nonconforming parts to document the nonconformance condition for customer approval.
Communicate with customers regarding Inspection methods, gauges, Non-destructive and destructive testing specifications, and/or clarification of specifications or drawing issues.
Review Inspection plans during the NPI process
Train operators and inspectors on the use of inspection gauging identified in Inspection Plans.
Perform internal and process audits and facilitate corrective and preventive actions.
Create work instructions and procedures in support of the AS9100D Quality Management System.
Interact with operators to gather input and feedback on product quality and inspection methods.
Participate in Kaizen, continuous improvement, and cost reduction efforts within company.
Create Pareto Charts for defect categories and implement corrective actions.
Periodically evaluate inspection results and report CPK and PPK value.
Control and drive down MRB on customer parts.
Participate in customer conference calls.
Support the daily manufacturing operation with majority of time spent on the production floor.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Required
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related engineering field (aerospace)
Strong knowledge of manufacturing quality requirements, ie. Control Plans, APQP, PPAP
Experience applying print standards and GD&T towards product inspection.
Experience with the use of metrology tools and gages for inspection
Understanding of AS9100D/ISO 9000 Quality Management System requirements
Self-starter, internally motivated to support operations
Ability to work quickly and accurately in a supportive manufacturing role
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols and customer specifications.
Responsive and customer-centric communication.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends and establish proactive corrective actions. Must have demonstrated statistical analysis capabilities.
Experience performing AS9100D/ISO 9000 Internal or Process audits is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills in a fast-paced, complex environment.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.


Physical Demands
On a daily basis, must be able flex between remaining in a stationary position and/or standing, bending, twisting, and stooping on the manufacturing floor for long periods of time depending on the day, task and business need. Lifting up to 50 lbs on occasion. The position requires occasional physical exertion. Working Environment
Usual manufacturing environment with temperature fluctuations, noise from and interactions with equipment, and safety standards of PPE and practices required.
