Evaluation Period: Annual performance evaluations if the student works the entire academic year. If the student works one semester, the performance evaluation will be completed after that semester


Basic Function

The primary function of the S&C Weight Room Attendant is to be responsible for providing customer service, cleanliness, and safety of general patrons utilizing the Harrington Center Weight Room and athletic patrons participating in the MSJ S&C program. WR Attendants are expected monitor and enforce HC WR Policies, while possessing a cordial and supportive disposition. Attendants will provide a safe environment by performing maintenance and routine cleaning of equipment and the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide customer service through interacting with patrons, assist with spotting, demo equipment use/exercise, answer questions.
  • Enforce ALL rules and facility policies.
  • Ensure the fitness area remain clean, organized, and exercise equipment is sound.
  • Disinfect and clean equipment.
  • Actively supervise the fitness training area maintaining a professional presence.
  • Keep a clean and tidy work station.
  • Perform Opening, Closing, and scheduled Maintenance/Cleaning duties.
  • Follow emergency care procedures in the event of injury or incident.
  • Read, understand, and abide by all employee policies and procedures stated in the S&C Weight Room Attendant manual.
  • Be a team player, communicate with Supervisor and fellow employees.
  • Perform other duties as specified by the Supervisor.
  • Be punctual, dependable.
  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Hours: Must be flexible; early mornings, days, nights, weekends, breaks

Qualifications

Qualifications

Currently enrolled Mount St Joseph University student.

Mount St Joseph University Work-study eligible preferred.

Ability to lift up to 100lbs, bend, twist, spot lifters.

Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.

Experience and/or interest in fitness is desirable

American Red Cross CPR/AED, First Aid Certifications desirable

 

Preferred Skills

Completion of academic exercise science courses.

Seeking a health and wellness related degree.

Seeking a nationally recognized fitness certification (i.e. ACE, NSCA, ACSM, NASM, AFAA).
