Education and Experience
- Degree in Education, Science, Art, Technology or equivalent experience.
- Education experience with youth in a formal or informal setting.
Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Required
- Ability to implement classroom and behavior management strategies.
- Willingness to create a welcoming camp environment through ice breaker/team building exercises, games, etc.
- Comfortable teaching an array of subjects in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art, and math
- Must be extremely punctual, enthusiastic, creative, and a problem-solver.
- Self-starter, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional demeanor
- Comfortable supervising/mentoring assistant educators and volunteers.
The ideal Educator will fit one or more of the following categories:
Biology Summer Camp Educator
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong background in biology, zoology, or ecology. This individual feels comfortable leading dissections and instructing 8-14 year-olds in biological science topics, including anatomy, animal sciences, botany, ecology, and others.
Claymation Summer Camp Educator
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong background in Claymation/stop-motion animation. This individual has a thorough understanding of programs, the animation process, and the ability to convey design and artistic concepts to students.
The program to be used will be Stop Motion Studio.
First Grade Summer Camp Educator
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong background in early elementary education. This individual feels comfortable instructing students ages 6-7 on a wide variety of elementary science topics and has a strong understanding of strategies to teach and engage young elementary learners through hands-on, exploratory learning techniques. This individual should also have excellent classroom and behavior management skills.
General Science Summer Camp Educator
The ideal candidate for this position has a wide range of knowledge in the science field. This individual feels comfortable in instructing 8-14 year-olds in general science camps on multiple topics, including biological sciences, food science, chemistry, physics, forensic science, robotics, electronics, and others.
Photography/Filmography Summer Camp Educator
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong background in photography and/or filmography. This individual has an understanding of photography principles, basic digital camera settings, and photo/video editing. The program to be used will be Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements.
Robotics Summer Camp Educator
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong background in simple robotics and block-based programming. This individual has experience assembling robots from push-to-fit or mechanical fastener components and is able to lead youth through the programming process, including debugging and troubleshooting. The programs to be used include Sphero EDU, LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Classroom, and VEX V5.
Screen Printing/Design Summer Camp Educator
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong background in screen printing and image design. This individual has a thorough understanding of the screen-printing process, with experience in screen prep, creating designs, and using plastisol and solvent inks. The programs to be used will be Adobe Photoshop Elements and CorelDraw.
