Job Summary: This analyst role will work alongside our brokerage, claims, and analytics teams to quantify catastrophe exposure for a wide variety of clients and communicate these results in an efficient & concise manner. This role will play an integral part in the continued build out of our catastrophe modeling capabilities and will be given creative freedom to develop new solutions and take on various ad-hoc projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the cat modeling process from start to finish including gathering & cleaning exposure data, creating import files, conducting catastrophe analysis using AIR and/or RMS modeling software, and writing & executing complex SQL queries to pull specified results
  • Clearly & effectively communicate catastrophe modeling results to brokers, actuaries, clients, loss control & claims professionals via detailed reports and data visualization tools
  • Work alongside broker teams across various industry verticals to develop creative solutions & products for emerging client needs
  • Help lead the catastrophe response function to provide clients with real time updates on impending & sudden natural disasters, including estimate of their potential exposure and financial loss
  • Educate peers & clients on the importance of catastrophe models, key metrics & definitions, and how to interpret the output
  • Take initiative as the expert on vendor model changes and communicate the impact of changes to all stakeholders
  • Continuously identify areas of opportunity to increase efficiencies of processes and reporting
  • Conduct research on catastrophic events, both natural disasters & man-made, and stay up to date on the latest developments in the catastrophic risk space

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in atmospheric science, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or a related quantitative field
  • 1-3 years of experience in catastrophe modeling or similar analytical role
  • Experience using catastrophe modeling software (AIR, RMS), including a general understanding of the models database structure preferred
  • Proficiency in SQL and Excel. Knowledge of Python, R, ArcGIS is a plus
  • Experience using data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI ) preferred
  • Strong oral & written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to brokers & clients
  • Industry certifications a plus (CSCR, CCRMP, CSPA, CPCU)

 

Salary:  $65,000 - $90,000 depending on experience with bonus opportunity
