Position Overview

The Mitchell Hall Costume Shop Assistant provides help and support for all costume needs that pertains to the CFAD productions and University Productions. Duties include the creation of costume pieces and other duties that are assigned.

Department Specific Job Functions

Perform Daily operations in the costume shop as it relates to the needs of each CFAD productions. Typical duties may include but are not limited to: sewing, cutting fabric, creating a costume from a paper pattern, restocking, pressing, washing and folding costumes, wig maintenance, hat making, dyeing fabric, and painting fabric.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates.  International students shall be enrolled full time to be eligible to work as a student worker. Full time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position. 

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact jobs@uco.edu for more information.

 

FWSP Requirements

In order to be considered for the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP), you must be approved for work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, and you must accept your FWSP award in UConnect. Contact the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships for assistance.

Please be aware, Summer FWSP is not included in the award for Fall/Spring FWSP. Summer FWSP is an individual application process.

Enrollment requirements for FWSP employment are the same each semester. Undergraduate FWSP students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours, and Graduate FWSP students must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours.  If a student is enrolled in their final semester and the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of remaining credit hours needed to graduate and the anticipated graduation date) and submit the letter to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Required

The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent ability to be self-motivated as productions have short turn over time, be able to follow directions and complete tasks with minimal instruction.

  • Student must be approved for Work Study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships for the appropriate semester
  • Student must accept their Federal Work Study Program award offer in UConnect
  • Flexible schedule is a must
  • Must be dependable and punctual

 

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

  • Familiarity with Bernina Sewing Machines and ability to hand sew

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to stand for three to four hours at a time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to move through a multi-story building with no elevator
