These positions are Treatment Specialist positions. Those who have worked as Caregivers or who have experience as a Direct Support Professional will bring some great transferable skills to this role, but they are not actually Caregiver positions. They do provide Direct support to individuals who live in a residential treatment home that is set up to provide the monitoring and supervision that is typically mandated in a PSRB conditional release plan. These particular programs also serve those who have a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The residential and clinic staff are in communication about each resident’s conditions as they relate to passes, medication oversight, curfew, money management, independent living abilities, risk factors, and structured treatment requirements.  One of the programs is located in SW Portland, is a 6 bed home, located in Multnomah Village and serves an all male population. The other is located in SE Portland, is a 5 bed home, and is located in the Lents area, and serves a mixed population. Residents are expected to sign in and out with staff and communicate about their destinations.

 

Shifts and Pay differentials: These programs operate 24/7 and don't stop operating on weekends, holidays or in inclement weather; they must always remain active to support the residents Cascadia serves. The work requires one to stay awake on all shifts. Generally shifts for these roles are, day, swing, and overnight shifts, so this requires that individuals be open to working in an environment that requires constant staffing, thus having the flexibility to work outside of a non traditional, 8 am to 5 pm schedule and also willing to consider work other than just day shifts. Float positions that are required to work shifts at various different locations, include a $1 pay differential, as well as our Per Diem (On-call) positions. A shift differential may also be included, depending on the shift you work. Both Swing and overnight shifts are provided with a shift pay differential in addition to the hourly wage when clocking in; swing is .50 cents and overnight is $1.00.

Essential Duties:

This position description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of responsibilities or an all inclusive job description.

  • Provide support with activities of daily living such as self-care, grooming and accompany residents to appointments if necessary.
  • Lead skills training groups: I.e. cooking groups, writing groups, social skill groups, etc. (the fun part is bringing in your creativity)
  • Assigned to one or two residents as a Primary Treatment Coordinator and you will have the opportunity to work with Case Managers in supporting residents with their support plans.
  • Overnight positions may have the opportunity research and learn more clinical knowledge or terms and will provide more support in house hold chores since this can be a quieter time. Ultimately, it will depend on the program needs.
  • Help with household chores
  • Medication management and medication documentation
  • Electronic record documentation that will includes progress notes as well as any notes or reports pertaining to critical incidences
  • Assist in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols and procedures. Have the ability and be prepared to assist with avoidance preventing escalation.
  • Demonstrate professional boundaries, abide by HIPPA, and complete required annual trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and what you bring:

  • Level I: High school diploma or equivalent
    • Compensation: $15/hr. to $15.33/hr.
  • Level II: requires a QMHA: Must meet the requirements and demonstrate the competencies to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA). Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university or three years of mental health work experience or a combination of work experience and education. Certification must be current and in compliance with MHACBOThis position requires QMHA as it has a focus on generating revenue through billing for fee-for-service.
    • Compensation: $16.35/hr. to $17.12/hr.
  • Having experience working in a residential facility providing direct support is helpful
  • Experience working with those living with a severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and/or a TBI 
  • The ability to be patient, regulate, meet people where they are at, and able to provide de-escalation techniques 
  • Ability to learn/use a computer, Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and do documentation
  • Ability to pass a DMV Check; requires use of a van for resident outings or appointments. Depending on the shift you working, driving may be a requirement. Overnight shifts don't require driving. 

 

Working Conditions

  • Environmental: Work is generally performed in a residential treatment home and occasionally out in the community. Universal precautions should be taken due to exposure to disease, biohazards, noise and contaminants.
  • Mental: Meal period’s and breaks are subject to interruptions. Regularly remaining aware and alert is critical to detect and address escalated, potentially volatile situations.
  • Physical Demands: Requires constant ability to be alert, detect, perceive, and be aware of surroundings, as well as communicate effectively for safety of staff, self and residents. Requires a regular ability to be stationary when working at a computer, ability to move around the program spaces, assist residents with completing daily living tasks, cleaning, etc., Requires regular ability to use computer to complete documentation and emails; a regular ability to move up in down stairs; many programs have 2 or 3 levels where residents reside. Requires occasional ability to stoop or lift 20 to 50 lbs I.e. supplies for the program. Requires occasional ability to run or move fast in potentially escalated situations in order to evade potential harm.
