Purpose: Under the general supervision of the Dean of Students, the Director of Residence Life will create a vibrant, seamlessly integrated living and learning collegial experience for residential students including maximizing the residential population to full capacity. The Director will also collaborate with other University constituents in efforts to achieve the University’s Strategic Planning Goals.

 

Duties of the Director:  

  • Plans and coordinates comprehensive residence life program including:
    • staff selection, training, supervision, and evaluation
    • room assignments and coordination of appropriate billing
    • coordination of student board plan and billing
    • policy enforcement and disciplinary action
    • purchasing of residence hall furnishings and equipment
    • direction and coordination of residence hall programming
    • appropriate and timely 24-hour emergency/crisis response
  • (There is a 24/7 Campus Police Force utilized by students)
  • Coordinates all aspects of residence hall move-in and move-out annually.
  • Supervises residence hall staff and assists Dean of Students in supervising office support staff member
  • Serves as the Advisor to Residence Hall Council
  • Develops learning outcomes for student leadership roles and programs
  • Maintains web pages for Residence Life and internal sites for work management with current students and RA staff
  • Creates new and exciting ways to engage residence hall students in their living experience
  • Continually assesses residential student needs and evaluates progress in meeting identified needs as well as meeting departmental goals
  • Supports First Generation living and learning communities
  • Assists with housing needs of orientation program and first-year students
  • Coordinates judicial proceedings and conduct hearings for students found in violation of university policy
  • Assists the Dean of Students in the coordination of student board plan and other food service related issues
  • Identifies students with specific wellness-related needs and makes appropriate referrals
  • Creates and executes a marketing plan to attract new residential students
  • Cultivates and maintains strong working relationships with various campus constituencies
  • Generates and maintains appropriate records and reports and demonstrates fiscal responsibility in department budget oversight
  • Works closely with the Dean of Students, Assistant Dean for Student Engagement and Leadership, Director of Wellness Center, Residence Hall staff, and all other Student Affairs staff on Residence Life matters
  • Works closely with the Director of Public Safety/Campus Police Officers to coordinate preventative safety and security measures and appropriate crisis response in matters related to the residence hall and residents
  • Works closely with the Director of Buildings and Grounds to ensure appropriate response to routine and non-routine custodial and maintenance issues and coordinate renovations in residence hall
  • Organizes and executes yearly Family Weekend program for participating students and family members.
  • Participates in and supports student orientation initiatives, Get Acquainted Day events, and registration days
  • Works closely with the Dean of Students in all the above matters
  • Serves on University Committees as assigned
  • Contributes to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the department; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed

Seton Residence Hall staff, residents, and parents; Dean of Students, Director of Public Safety/Campus Police, Director of Wellness Center and Student Affairs staff; Admissions Office, Director of Buildings & Grounds; Food Service staff; General Counsel, Mission Integration Office, Diversity/Equity and Inclusion; and other members of the campus community.

 

Supervision Exercised: 

Supervises Resident Assistants, the Office Administrative Assistant for Residence Life.  

 

Supervision Received:

As the Director, works under general direction toward broadly defined objectives; refers specific problems to Dean of Students when clarification or interpretation of organizational policies is involved.

 

 

Qualifications

Education:         

Earned Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field required at time of application.

 

Experience:       

Two Years of Experience in the management of a college/university residence hall and residence hall programming; experience with campus disciplinary investigations.

  • Accomplishes tasks with follow through to completion

Technical:          

  • Must possess aptitude for technological development and its implications for appropriate automation of office functions (knowledge of eRezLife helpful, training provided)

Work Environment, Physical Demands:

  • Must be available for 24-hour call; Handling of stressful situations related to student behavior issues and crisis situations; multiple concurrent tasks with constant service interruptions; customer contact; strict confidentiality; detailed work; computer data input
