Recovery Network of Programs, Inc. (RNP), is a private, non-profit, social service agency which has been serving the Greater Bridgeport Community and Fairfield County area since 1972. RNP is dedicated to helping those living with substance use, mental health disorders, and homelessness. Our mission is to restore hope, health, and wellbeing for individuals and families in a recovery environment that embraces compassion, dignity, and respect.

Starting in 2014, RNP was the second CT Medical assisted treatment (MATS) agency allowed into the State correctional system to administer methadone. Our program, North Star Recovery, began at Bridgeport Correctional Center and has grown substantially both in scope as well as number of populations served. Our work will now be extending to Garner Correctional Center in Newtown. We are seeking per diem Addiction Counselors to join the team.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts screening, intake, orientation and multi-dimensional assessment of clients to obtain information concerning substance abuse and medical history or other pertinent information.
  • Implements therapeutic treatment using approved methods of planning, counseling, and crisis intervention to assist clients in overcoming substance abuse disorders and other co-occurring issues.
  • Consults with DOC Addictions Counselor, medical doctor, Psychiatric staff or other specialists concerning treatment plan and amends plan as directed.
  • Provides information and education to individuals and groups concerning substance abuse and mental health disorders (co-occurring disorder).
  • Refers clients to GCC Release Coordinator(s) for supportive services to supplement treatment, counseling and re-entry.
  • Prepares and maintains records on assigned caseload and issues reports.
  • Understanding of and ability to provide integrated care for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  • Assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Qualifications

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor's degree in the behavioral sciences and two (2) years experience in counseling preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of counseling chief among these: maintaining timely, accurate documentation specific to the changing needs of all clients; implementation of personal boundaries.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate information pertinent to the care of clients.
  • Knowledge of the physical, psychological, social and economic effects of substance abuse, homelessness, medical and mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to project a professional image.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES

  • Must pass CT DOC background check and attend DOC orientation.
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license required.
  • MATS certified and/or CAC and SCCD preferred.
