SUMMARY:  Buchanan & Edwards (BE) is seeking a Sr. Accountant to assist the Controller and Payroll Manager with Payroll, General Ledger, and other Accounting activities.  The position will provide opportunity for professional growth, mentorship, and cross-training in the Controller and Payroll Manager roles to provide seamless coverage and continuity of operations throughout the year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 

Accounting:

  • Assist with processing semi-monthly payrolls through Paycom for BE’s 500+ employees.
  • Review timesheet entries; identify and communicate errors to managers/employees for resolution; and post corrections.
  • Respond, troubleshoot, and resolve employees’ technical or application issues with Deltek Time and Expense module.
  • Assist/manage monthly close process including Revenue, Direct Cost, and GL and perform the full range of moderately complex to complex accounting and financial activities, journal entries, reconciliations, analysis and accruals.
  • Ensure the month-end and year-end closes are completed timely and accurately.
  • Assist the Controller with Preparation of monthly Financial Statements.
  • Perform & review Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss statement reconciliations, sub ledger review activities and review invoicing, and ensure the integrity of financial records.
  • Review General Ledger reconciliation schedules. Identify and resolve complex discrepancies.
  • Perform cash forecasting in collaboration with FP&A
  • Manage system implementations and integrations.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable vendor.
  • Assist with Payroll and Accounting audits including the annual accounting audit, worker’s comp, finance, tax, 401k
  • Review and update standard operating procedures (SOP) for Accounting and Payroll processes; ensure compliance with all internal policies.
  • Maintain, create, and improve internal controls and overall process improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Controller, Payroll Manager, Auditors, and other Accounting/Finance professionals as needed.

The Senior Accountant will take on additional responsibilities over time, gradually assuming more complex tasks and gaining proficiency in Controller and Payroll Manager functions. 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • 3-5 years of work experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting preferred.
  • Prior experience with a medium to large government contracting services provider preferred.
  • Deltek Costpoint Time & Expense system or any comparable government timekeeping accounting system are a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant is a plus
  • FAR, CAS, DCAA, and Government Compliance experience are a plus

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong MS Excel capabilities, and proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
