Position Overview:

Serve as a member of the Production and Operating Team in providing production and maintenance services for 9500 capacity Amphitheater hosting world class concerts, special events, meetings and in-house productions.

 

Principal Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Coordinate with Director of Production and members of the Tour Production team to clarify needs and determine technical equipment, support personnel needs and timetables necessary for each production.
  • Serve as onsite and visible lead production team member on deck.
  • Cooperate in the planning and organizing of production strikes, pre-hangs and return or storage of all technical equipment.
  • Recommend, plan and oversee maintenance, repair and replacement for stage systems including rigging, fly, soft goods, etc.
  • Assist in the creation of, and adherence to production, operating and capital budgets.
  • Communicate effectively across all functional departments, specifically Tour Management, Walton Arts Center, FOH and Facilities.
  • Be a reliable and conscientious team member.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Director of Production or other WAC/AMP Senior Management.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

 

General Technical

  • Assist in the planning and execution of all technical aspects of AMP events, including, but not limited to, sound, lighting, and staging.
  • Assist in ensuring safe working conditions, including preventative maintenance as needed, of all technical equipment and the periodic training and evaluation of local crews.
  • Ensure orderly maintenance of stage and backstage areas.
  • Order equipment and supplies for production and operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Fully versed in the set-up and operation of Amphitheater stage systems to include platforming, fly rigging, basic chain motor/truss rigging, soft goods, and maintenance.
  • Safety first methods of set construction, assembly and strike.
  • Working knowledge and working experience in electrics, carpentry and wardrobe, in union and non-union houses.
  • Interpret contract rider requirements and coordinate with visiting artist needs and substitutions based on Walmart Amp capabilities.
  • Able to read and execute stage plots as supplied by touring shows. Coordinate with tour managers as needed to adjust plot according to space and equipment differences.
  • Serve as the onsite production manager at all shows.
  • Oversee asset management and the maintenance of all equipment and recommend replacement/repair as needed.
  • Act as the Walmart AMP technical representative as required.
  • Must have a strong understanding of touring needs
  • Must be able read and understand theatrical ground plans and scenic design.
  • Basic construction, tools and machinery skills and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge and operation of Vectorworks and/or AutoCad.

  • Basic technical theatre knowledge

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, TRAITS

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theater preferred with 2-5 years of professional production experience. 
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with OSHA, ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience working at an Amphitheater, Arena, Roadhouse or the like.
  • Previous production and/or technical theatre experience.
  • Track record of being reliable and team player.

 

PHYSICAL

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing in English.
