JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Director of Marketing & Communications
Employment Classification: Full-time Salary; Exempt
Reports to: Chief Development Officer
Department: Development



Position Summary: The Director of Communications of the Orangewood Foundation and the Samueli Academy is a member of the Leadership team, reports to the Chief Development Officer, and works closely with the Development team, Program department, and Leadership team to develop our communications plan and oversees our marketing strategies to support our strategic initiatives, generate revenue for the organization, and position the Foundation as a non-profit thought-leader and innovator.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Build upon the organizations credible reputation and legacy to establish Orangewood Foundation as Innovators and Thought Leaders in the community.
  •  Engage Leadership team and Marketing Committee in strategic planning process to reinvigorate messaging across the organization and maintain up-to-date best practices around messaging our mission.
  • Collaborate with and support Development and Program teams and Samueli Academy to streamline communication across units, unifying branding and creating a brand persona and style book.
  • Increase revenue into the organization through a strategic marketing and communications plan, outlined in an annual calendar to engage units across the organization.
  •  Cultivate a broad range of external partnerships, including vendors, media, community partners and local business to support the building of community.
  •  Serve as a point of contact within the Development and Program teams and Samueli Academy to strengthen our marketing and fundraising tools for a broad range of fundraising goals.
  • Support CDO in implementing strategic planning, objectives and key results, and consistency of messaging/communications within the Development team.
  • Establish customer service focused processes for other departments to ensure they are fully supported by our Marketing and Communications efforts.
  •  Oversee all aspects of marketing, including social media/digital, print, advertising and PR and special campaigns.
  • Oversee event planning logistics, messaging and promotion for the organization, inclusive of committee management

Knowledge, Skill and Experience Requirements:

  •  8+ years in Marketing/Communications role (+/-) education in related field
  •  Experience working in a non-profit organization or knowledgeable of non-profit Marketing & Communication through agency focus or project-based voluntarism.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting oneself in community settings.
  •  Possess a valid California drivers license and proof of automobile insurance. Position requires DMV clearance.
  • o Must be able to pass a criminal background check, FBI/DOJ fingerprinting, TB test, and drug test.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in writing, and communication across a range of channels and for a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in market research, analyzing and using data to drive strategies.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently to meet fundraising goals.
  •  Excellent public speaker and group facilitator able to engage various stakeholders in the organizations mission.
  • Understands the issues impacting Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), especially youth who have experienced foster care, homelessness and trafficking.
  •  Ability to maintain positive personal and professional relationships with a wide variety of individuals and stakeholders in a range of demanding situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and delegate to staff and volunteers as needed.Ability to respect the confidentiality of organizational information, data, and strategic planning, in addition to the confidentiality of client, partner, and donor files.
  •  Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Possess a valid California drivers license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • An active knowledge of Orangewoods mission and programs is required along with professional understanding of marketing and fundraising objectives and best practices.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements: Primarily an office job that includes possibility for some remote work. Occasional driving to meetings, trainings, events, and partnership engagements. Physical requirements include standing, sitting, typing, bending, driving, and potentially lifting up to approximately 25 lbs.

 

Modification to work schedule may be made based on need of the Foundation.
