SierTeK Ltd. is seeking a Research Administrator to support an opportunity onsite at Wright Patterson AFB, OH.

POSITION OVERVIEW SECTION

The employee shall support the conduct of research to address current Human Effectiveness Directorate, Air & Space Biosciences Division, Airmen Readiness Optimization Branch 711 HPW/RHBC Operational Based Vision Assessment (OBVA) Laboratory operational needs and MAJCOM-identified capability gaps. The objectives of the OBVA program of research are: 1) provide the aeromedical and operational communities understanding of the minimum vision requirements needed to perform operational tasks; 2) develop aeromedical vision standards and waiver criteria supported by operational task performance measures; 3) objectively evaluate vision correction, enhancement, and protective technologies; 4) develop vision performance models to predict operational performance based on clinical test results, and 5) uncover strategies (training, engineering) to improve vision performance and possibly counter deficiencies. These objectives will be accomplished using simulation environments to evaluate the quantitative relationship between operational performance and vision screening test results. Execution of this comprehensive research agenda requires the design, set-up, and maintenance of multiple, simultaneous experiments involving human subjects, and the collection, analysis, and reporting of large amounts of data. The contractor employee shall demonstrate a strong teamwork skillset and employ inherent collaboration skills.

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • The employee responsibilities include providing direct support to OBVA research personnel and laboratories.
  • The employee shall work with a team of scientists, engineers, physicians, research assistants, optometry technicians, and other support contractors to support the day-to-day operations of the OBVA research laboratories.
  • The employee shall employ the skillset to work with Principal Investigators to track and manage the execution of research projects across multiple contracted research efforts.
  • The  employee shall assist with the preparation, completion, coordination and submission of human subject research protocol related documents for the AFRL Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other IRBs as required; prepare progress reports for USAF leadership, IRB/ Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and provide auditing trails to assure protocol compliance; maintain annual IRB approvals, amendments, and safety events; process data queries and ensure resolution; identify problems and/or inconsistencies and monitor patients’ progress to include documentation and reporting of adverse events; recommend corrective action as appropriate; assist in preparation of amendments to protocols and/or modifications to study design, as appropriate; and ensure/track mandatory IRB training for OBVA personnel is completed as required.
  • The employee shall complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative human subject use training (CITI training) within the first month. The primary duties for this position cannot be carried out without this training. This course is required for investigators and staff conducting research with human subjects.
  • The employee shall assist, as needed, with supervising subject recruitment, scheduling, and carrying out data collection involving human subjects, which may require assistance with setting-up experimental equipment; and operating and calibrating specialized research equipment.
  • The employee shall coordinate and set-up research meetings and/or technical exchanges across multiple organizations, within the DoD, and for external organizations, and international research partners. Communications (e.g., MS Teams, Outlook, etc.) organizational and planning skills are critical in fulfilling this role.
  • The employee shall support the coordination and response to organizational taskers, administrative requests, and interfacing with 711 HPW facility management to support lab operations as needed.
  • The employee shall assist in developing and implementing laboratory guidance (i.e., safety protocols, emergency and security plans, and housekeeping) and provide training to new lab personnel, to include maintaining essential laboratory documents.
  • In addition to the duties described above, the contractor employee shall conduct any other functions and duties recognized as being necessary to conduct their primary role within the scope of the effort.
  • The employee shall be required to travel in support of human subject data collection and research collaboration with external organizations. 

Qualifications

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in life science or healthcare and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in a research or clinical environment; or an M.S. in a life science or healthcare and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a research or clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated technical writing/editing experience and shall be familiar with assisting with writing and quality proofing professional research technical reports, professional presentations containing statistical results, as well as research proposals, conference presentations/publications, and journal manuscripts.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a medical, clinical or research laboratory environment and have strong communication skills to support both in-house and multi-organizational research.
  • Previous experience and ability to track and coordinate activities across multiple organizations.
  • Ability to independently research, obtain, and implement DoD and/or AFRL policy guidance applicable to human subjects' research. The employee shall assist with complying with institutional review board (IRB) guidance concerning human subjects research, including submitting new research protocols, preparing periodic reviews, tracking informed consent documents, and coordinating with the IRB.
  • Ability to work independently, have strong attention to detail, have strong English skills, good organizational skills, initiative in performing assigned tasks, and the ability to follow-up complex projects.
  • Demonstrate high-level proficiency in Microsoft software programs which include: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated experience with development and maintenance of databases. The contractor employee shall assist with creating and maintaining human subject databases to manage research compensation and track research participation and approved participant demographic data.
  • Sign Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with their company based on the potential access to confidential, proprietary, and/or sensitive information. The NDA shall be provided to the Government Program Manager by start of performance.
  • Current Secret Clearance or ability to obtain.
