Position Title: Intramural Graduate Assistant

Reports to: Director of Campus Recreation and Coordinator of Campus Recreation

Session: Academic (August 12, 2024 - May 16, 2025) This is a one-year placement with an opportunity for re-application and hire.

Hourly Rate & Leadership Classification: $17.00

Average hours per week: Up to 20 hours per week

Job Purpose: Graduate Assistant will assist with the overall operation of the Intramural Sports program and assist with advising Intramural Sports student employees. Expect 8-10 hours per week in the office and 8-10 hours per week attending sporting events.
 

Essential Duties:

Intramural Sports Program

  • Operating Intramural Sport game days by attending games to oversee successful officiating and maintain a positive and safe sport environment.

  • Responsible for prepping equipment and score sheets prior to games.

  • Consistently relaying feedback from players to the Director of Campus Recreation and Coordinator of Campus Recreation.

  • Train IM student officials and supervisors in the rules and regulations of each sport and the IM Sports program.

  • Collect and track the collection of IM team dues payment in conjunction with the Drysdale HUB Desk.

  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with the Director of Campus Recreation, Coordinator of Campus Recreation, and the IM Student Supervisors.

  • Assist in duties as assigned by either the Director or Coordinator of Campus Recreation

Marketing

  • Work to create Campus Recreation Newsletter updating, the student body on Club Sports and IM Sports

  • Attend IM and Club Sport events to take pictures and videos to later edit for departmental use

  • Assist in the social media promotion for IM Sports

Event Planning and Implementation

  • Assist in the supervision of large campus wide events, such as College Football Pick ‘Em, Turkey Bowl, March Madness, and other events or activities sponsored and/or hosted by the Recreation Department.

  • Help to advise campus organizations putting on events or activities sponsored and/or hosted by the Recreation Department.

Qualifications

ORAL OR WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent written and communication skills required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The functions of this position are a mix of sitting and some significant amounts of walking or standing.  Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting or carrying may be required. As schedules for programs and events may occur after 5 p.m. and on weekends, schedules will be adjusted accordingly.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Some Intramural Sports Experience Preferred, Some Team Sports Experience Preferred

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, or related field. Must be enrolled in a University of Lynchburg Graduate Program.
