Assistant Director, New Student & Family Programs

Position Overview:

Develop, implement, and manage activities, programs, and services related to orientation, first-year experience programs, parent/family programs and major campus events. Develop and execute short and long-term plan, goal and objectives for programs to ensure alignment with university goals. Monitor and report on participation and satisfaction and recommend improvements. Develops, implements, and authorizes the expenditures of department and fee-funded group budgets. Oversee activities and budgets of student fee funded student organizations. Oversee staff, student employees, and volunteers. Oversee safety and compliance.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Responsible for the overall leadership, planning and execution of orientation, parent/family programming, first-year experience programs, and select major campus events. These programs include, but are not limited to: New Broncho Orientation, New Broncho Orientation Online, Stampede Week, Cheer & Dance, and Broncho FYE. Responsible for selection, training and supervision of Orientation Leaders. Supervises the Coordinator of Student Engagement, Orientation. Serves as the primary contact for admitted students and family members with all details regarding Orientation. Serves as the Student Affairs representative to enrollment and retention committees.

Provides assistance with promotion of Student Affairs programs, events, and publicity. Will support Student Life programs. Will be directly responsible for oversight and management of specific budgets, including the Orientation budgets. Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs.

Will work some evenings and weekend activities. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications/Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in job related field plus 7+ years of work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires work experience with leading, planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment. Extensive knowledge and comprehensive understanding of functional area. Appropriate profession accomplishments and credentials.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred:

Master's degree in student affairs or related field. 2-4 years of experience post graduate school. Experience in supervision of graduate and/or undergraduate students.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, and organizational skills. Computer proficiency preferably in Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and interacts professionally with all segments of the University community. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be detail oriented. Maturity to work with parents/families of students.
