Title:  Epic Iris Operational Database Administrator

Location: Administrative Office - IT Department

City: Bellingham, WA

Position: Full-time 40 hours on-site in IT Department, rotating on-call schedule, non-exempt (hourly)

Compensation: The full wage scale is $26.20 - $36.67 per hour. If Epic certified/accredited as ODBA the full wage scale is $27.25 - $38.14. Placement within the range is determined by an evaluation of the candidate’s background, education and experience.

Bonus: Employees are eligible annually to participate in discretionary bonus programs, as determined by FCN, which include the Years-of-Service bonus program, the Quality Performance bonus program and the Performance Recognition bonus program.

Job Summary: The Epic Operational Database Administrator ODBA is a hands on role on the IT Team. This person installs and administers the Epic Cache (Iris) Operational Database ODB environments. They also perform environment setup and configuration, proactive monitoring, and maintenance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Creating and managing the ODB environments that serve production, reporting, disaster recovery, training, and nonproduction needs.
  • Installing and maintaining the administrative and monitoring tools necessary for high levels of availability and performance of the Epic system.
  • Understanding performance metrics, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Managing the logins for different types of access, including login behavior, and working environment configuration.
  • Applying Cache (Iris) and Epic upgrades and updates to production and nonproduction environments.
  • Configuring and maintaining environment copies according to the environment strategy.
  • Responding to emergency and after hours issues.
  • Engaging in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resources.
  • Collaborating with IT/EMR teams and Epic to ensure proactive support.
  • Writing and maintaining scripts to improve system management tasks.
  • Participating in your change control process for all planned application and technical activities.
  • Maintaining and testing processes related to business continuity.
  • Following vendor and Epic best practices for hardware and software configuration.
  • Creating, maintaining, documenting, and testing backup and recovery strategies.
  • Cross training in the roles and responsibilities of other IT team members to ensure adequate coverage for FCNs operational needs.
  • Assisting IT team members in responding to general phone calls and documenting problems in ticketing system and participating in the 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong Unix skills using the commandline prompt, including navigating directory structures and file manipulation.
  • Understanding of operating system concepts such as user and group ownership and file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc.
  • Knowledge of a command shell Korn, POSIX, Bourne, or C, plus languages and utilities such as awk, sed, and Perl.
  • Ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedures.

  • Our PTO and EIB benefits begin accruing from the first day of employment and employees are eligible to take paid time off after 60 days of employment. An employee accrues PTO at a rate based upon the number of months of service at FCN. A new full-time employee generally accrues 18 days per year. EIB accrues based upon the number of paid hours excluding overtime, with a full-time employee accruing a maximum of 48 hours per year. Benefit eligibility is determined based on the full or part-time status of the position. Employees who are ineligible for FCN’s PTO/EIB programs accrue Paid Sick Leave per Washington State law.

Our 401k retirement plan is designed to support you in preparing for retirement planning and include individualized financial planning guidance. Eligibility for the FCN Retirement Plan programs is determined based upon years of service and required payroll hours. We offer the following programs:

Qualifications

Epic Certification/Accreditation & Training Requirements

If a staff member is Epic certified/accredited prior to hire, FCN will determine if additional Epic training is required to assure proficiency or currency in the new assigned role and may provide Epic training at the organization’s discretion.

If a staff member is not Epic certified/accredited prior to hire, FCN will provide Epic training at the appropriate timeframe based upon demonstrated aptitude, readiness for the training and the Epic training schedule. It is expected that after the training is completed, the staff member will take the Epic Certification exam and become certified/accredited. Although the staff member may be provided with up to two additional attempts to achieve certification/accreditation, if the employee is unable to do so, at the discretion of FCN, the staff member may no longer be considered qualified to meet the requirements of the position.

Training Requirements: The Epic Iris Operational Database Administrator attends the appropriate course track as designated by Epic.

Education & Experience:

  • Computer Science Related Degree (CS, Network Engineering, Specialty Training)
  • Epic Caché (Iris) ODBA experience a plus
  • Experience working in a medical environment a plus
  • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator a plus

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to: stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

Immunization Requirements:

All employees at Family Care Network (FCN) are expected to meet and maintain required immunizations as a contingency of employment. The immunization requirements are as follows: Influenza (annually), Tdap (after the age of 19), MMR, Varicella or a verified history of chicken pox disease, Two-step TST or IGRA (within the last 12 months), COVID-19 vaccine completed series and any additional immunizations determined necessary for the protection of staff and patients. Hepatitis B is also required for employees in positions with a high risk of blood borne pathogen exposure, which includes the following: Providers, RNs, LPNs, MA-Cs, PSRs at all Urgent Care Locations, and all-laboratory staff. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended for all other employees. FCN will cover the cost of required immunizations for any FCN employee. All employee immunizations will be administered by FCN staff except for the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at a participating pharmacy or other healthcare location. Note: A medical or religious vaccine exemption/reasonable accommodation will be considered by submitting an FCN Exemption form for review and evaluation by the Chief Medical Officer.
