The role involves troubleshooting, performing minor repairs, responding to emergency calls for service, performing scheduled grounds maintenance depending on the season. Works closely with employees and the public to meet their ministry needs and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations.

Major Responsibilities

  • Complete general building maintenance tasks such as cleaning gutters, caulking, replacement of light bulbs and ballast, door lock repairs and installation
  • Troubleshoots and completes small carpentry projects, small electrical repairs, plumbing and electrical fixture replacements and installations, structural repairs to masonry, woodwork and furnishings of the building
  • Inspects and maintains the irrigation systems, aeration systems for the pond, and the fountain of the pond
  • Plans, coordinates and assists in completion of ground maintenance activities such as snow removal, mowing, trimming hedges, removing weeds and raking
  • Responsible for snow removal and ice control of all walk areas and parking lot.
  • Prioritize, coordinate and perform routine and comprehensive grounds projects with the approval of the Facilities director
  • Respond to service requests - coordinate resources and implement the set up and take down of furniture and equipment for a wide variety of church and community events.
  • Perform various custodial and light maintenance duties such as repair to fixtures in restrooms, offices and classrooms
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor plumbing and electrical problems; replace a variety of lamps, light bulbs and lighting accessories
  • Operate power equipment such as riding and push lawnmowers, pressure washer, hand and power tools, weed whips and church vehicles
  • Keep church vehicles maintained and ready for all seasons of work
  • Perform preventative maintenance in and around facilities as requested
  • Help train facilities specialists in maintenance and grounds.
  • Serve as shift lead in absence of the Facility Director.
  • Direct the work of volunteer assistants and short-term, non-continuing employees as needed
  • Coordinates and contributes to various remodeling projects.

  • Ability to work under limited supervision and carry out oral and written directions
  • Desire to take ownership of assigned areas and tasks to help ensure a positive Elmbrook experience.
  • Knowledgeable in the following functional areas operations and maintenance, construction, ground maintenance, technical training and safety
  • Knowledgeable in the use of specialized equipment/machines and the ability to use both power and hand tools and methods of safe work practices
  • Knowledge in methods of maintenance, plumbing, and electricity is a plus.
  • Knowledge of BAS software to help in building maintenance
  • Knowledge of proper use, handling and disposal of pesticides and a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations
  • Ability to work effectively in and around the public
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking
  • Work safely in an environment containing various chemicals, cleaning materials, dust and noise.
  • Work under inclement weather conditions
  • Possess a valid (Class D) Wisconsin drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Possess a current CPR and first aid training
  • Possess a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and ability

Employment Information

This position is full-time, hourly and nonexempt, 40 hours/week.

Salary dependent on experience, skills & education

Paid Time Off (PTO) Full time employees are eligible to earn PTO. PTO is accrued on a calendar year basis. Refer to the Staff Handbook for specific details.

403b Employees are eligible to participate in the 403b pension plan if they are scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Entry dates for the 403b plan is the first of the month following date of hire. On an employees first anniversary, Elmbrook will make a match.

Holidays Full time employees are eligible for holiday pay. There are 10 holidays recognized by Elmbrook Church as paid holidays; refer to the Staff Handbook for specific details.

Reporting Structure

The Maintenance & Grounds Lead Specialist will be accountable and report directly to the Facilities Director of Elmbrook Church.
