Summary

Our Chief Flight Instructor will direct flight instructors, Assistant Chief’s, students, and team members in maintaining a culture of safety, efficiency, and operational excellences. The Chief Flight Instructor for the McAir Flight Campus works closely with the VP of Flight Ops, and Director of Maintenance to support operations of the flight campus. This includes playing an active role in student interactions and in compliance regulations from the FAA.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with the Chief Academic and Operations Officer, Assistant Chief Flight Instructors, Flight Instructors, Director of Maintenance, and Human Resources
  • Play an active role in student interactions and work closely with other campus staff and faculty members and promote good campus communications
  • Provide direction and supervision to the instructors and staff as required to maintain FAA, TSA, and College compliance
  • As delegated by the Chief Flight Instructor: Certifying student's training records, graduation certificate, stage check and end-of-course test reports, and recommendation for course completion
  • Work with the instructors and staff to maintain training techniques, procedures, and standards for the school that are acceptable to the FAA Administrator
  • Be available by telephone, radio, or other electronic means during the time that training is given for an approved training course for approvals and questions concerning the course
  • Oversee the Flight Instructor flight and ground courses as Chief Flight Instructor
  • Support the Flight Campus Leadership Team
  • Support Flight Operations and Maintenance Teams
  • Conduct and attend meetings, internal or external, as required by the Leadership Team such as the Program Advisory Committee Meetings
  • Conduct student briefings prior to their FAA practical tests to assure their success and so the College will meet the FAA required 80% pass rate for the school to remain as an approved Part 141 school
  • Conduct Examining Authority FAA tests for the issuance of the Examining Authority tests as well as other stage checks, evaluations, and FAA credit hour flights for incoming students
  • Supports Human Resources and provides any required documentation or information.
  • Provide the required College and FAA training for new hires and assist in the onboarding process
  • Assist in the management of the required files for HR, FAA and ACCSC, and other related human resources support as required
  • Interact with campus employees, students, board members, corporate HR, or outside contacts to provide information, solve routine problems, or otherwise respond to requests
  • Represent the VP of Flight Operations where needed within the college community as well as with external agencies
  • Maintain the current employee lists and organization charts
  • Assist in the preparation of FAA Training Course documents relating to FAA certification and college accreditation as directed by the VP of Flight Operations
  • Assist and help coordinate and conduct student and faculty and campus activities as needed.
  • Projects as assigned by Leadership Team
  • Assist the Leadership Team in the development of new ground courses in Canvas as a part of the process to create an online flight ground training program
  • Assist the Assistant Chief Flight and Ground Instructors with the conduct of their duties
  • Provide Flight Pro Training and support to all staff and to support the IT department

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of related experience with a proven track record of success.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with part 141 flight schools.
  • At least 2,000 hours as pilot in command.
  • Flight training experience, acquired as either a certificated flight instructor or an instructor in a military pilot flight training program, or a combination thereof, consisting of at least (i) 3 years and a total of 1,000 flight hours; or (ii) 1,500 flight hours.
  • Ability to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Certificates, License, Registrations

  • Hold a commercial pilot certificate or an airline transport pilot certificate with airplane single and multiengine, instrument airplane
  • Hold a flight instructor certificate airplane single and multiengine, instrument airplane
  • Current FAA Medical
