The Fessenden School is an all boys independent day and boarding school serving 540 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 9th Grade in West Newton, MA. Position Summary
The Grade 3 Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for a class of 14 to 17 boys. The Grade 3 Substitute Teacher is responsible for teaching math, social studies, language arts, and reading. The assignment for this position will be through December 20, 2024. This role may have the opportunity to be an as-needed substitute for the remainder of the School year.
Essential Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Ability to provide a structured, orderly, safe, and respectful classroom
-
Teach and stay current with curriculum for math, social studies, language arts and reading, and 21st century learning
-
Incorporate project based learning, educational technology, differentiated learning and cultural competency into lessons
-
Integrate racial literacy curriculum and actively teach and model inclusion, equity, and social justice
-
Partner with other teachers to coordinate consistency in curriculum and programs
-
Integrate social emotional learning
-
Collaborate with learning resources department to provide a coordinated approach for students with learning differences
-
Exemplify the School’s mission and community principles, including honesty, respect and compassion
-
Participate in and help facilitate all division and grade level activities
-
Collaborate with colleagues within grade level, division, department and student support services, including the Learning Resources Department
-
Perform duties such as supervising drop off and dismissal, recess, lunch
-
Maintain all documentation connected with the curriculum and students
-
Review potential student applicants throughout the year
-
Attend faculty meetings; typically on Mondays from 3:00pm to 4:15pm
-
Attend professional development meetings after school
-
Maintain regular and reliable attendance
-
Maintain current CPR/AED & first aid certification
-
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree
-
Two years of classroom experience in instructing children in an academic program
-
Ability to develop and provide differentiated instruction to meet learning needs of a range of students
-
Enthusiasm and communication skills to engage boys and build meaningful relationships
-
Strong facilitation and leadership skills to create an inclusive and joyful learning environment
-
Ability to perform critical thinking, organization, prioritization and problem solving with minimal supervision
-
Ability to serve in a diverse community of colleagues, students and parents
-
Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, justice, diversity and equity
-
A commitment to boys and boys’ education
